Album Notes

Since 1990, Boston-based singer/songwriter Eddie McGarry has been writing songs and playing at open-mike nights in Boston and on Cape Cod trying out new material and developing his portfolio of songs. One night after playing the song, "Beautiful Girl," at an open-mike at the The Prodigal Son in Hyannis, a woman called out from the audience, "Do you have a CD?" He realized that it was time to record one.

A prolific songwriter, McGarry writes songs in a contemporary folk-acoustic style with rock, country, and blues influences. McGarry's lyrics always tell a story. Each song is like a snapshot from the singer's life characterized by a sincere emotion and a twist of poetry. The songs range from a working class story with a rock beat ("Better Times Comin' Round") to a soft countryesque ballad that anyone who's asked someone to dance can relate to ("Nice to Dance").

For backup on his debut album, "Heat from the Spark," Eddie enlisted the talents of musicians Jim Henry, Richard Gates, Doug Plavin, Joe Barbado, Steve Kowalcyk, Andrea Terrio, and many others.
Eddie McGarry is the youngest of ten children and from a musical family. Five of his siblings - -Margy Backus, Tricia Lawyer, Kate McGarry, Allen McGarry, and Beth Sheehan - -perform background vocals on the debut album.

When he's not singing or writing songs, Eddie makes a living as a full-time firefighter in Chelsea, Massachusetts.

This is some fantastic work: The songwriting is keen, the arrangements are fresh and the vocals are superb. Eddie's music has a transcendent quality, yet it's down to earth and real.

It's been a long time since I've enjoyed a CD this much! I can't get "Will You See Me Tonight" out of my head... "The All Out" gave me the chills. I just brought it into work yesterday, and 2 co-workers have already decided to buy the CD for themselves. I can't wait for more music by Eddie McGarry.
