Album Notes

Edgar Breau is a Canadian singer/songwriter and the founder of the internationally critically acclaimed psyche/proto-punk band Simply Saucer. Formed in 1973 their avant garde mix of electonics with angular raw guitar stylings made them underground music darlings with the belated release of Cyborgs Revisited in 1989 Recorded in 1974 by Bob and Daniel Lanois in their basement studio, Master Sound Recordings, it's heady mix of Stooges, Velvet Underground and Syd Barrett era Floyd inspired sounds catapulted the band into cult classic status. After the premature demise of the band in !979, Edgar Breau continued to write songs on a Grit Laskin built acoustic guitar inspired by American guitar icon, John Fahey's American Primitive style. Performing on the road with a tight knit band consisting of S. Saucer bassist Kevin Christoff, harmony vocalist Compton Roberts, elec gtr player Jeff Bakalar and veteran drummer Paul Panchezak the quintet polished up their arrangements and went into the famous Lanois Bros. studio, Grant Avenue, and laid down 11 stellar tracks. Those tracks have never been released together until now. Shadows of Ecstasy is Edgar and company's long lost recording and is an important piece of one of Canada's most fascinating musician's history and a right good art rock recording verging on cult classic. This is the first of a series of archival recordings to be released on Flying Inn Recordings, the exciting new label that Edgar Breau and David Byers (of Shangs fame) have created for just such a purpose.
