The Edge City Trilogy was "inspired" by the some nasty trends that were becoming common everyday occurrences: horrific suburban gridlock, mindless landscapes of box stores, strip malls and fast food joints, and the relentless soundtrack of sanitary, mass-merchandised music littering the airwaves. Edge City got together as a reaction against all that -- a way for a group of accomplished musicians to explore music creatively and get back to roots of the music revolution that seemed to be dying.
Aktivavoco is the third installment of the Trilogy. In this collection we experiment with the interaction of instrumentals in voices in new ways.
In addition to Edge City regulars, we have several unique and dynamic guest vocalists: the incomparable Vickie Dodd, Tuvan throat-singer Devan Miller, chanteuse Judith-Kate Friedman, and baritone Jim Couture.
The music pulls together jazz, and wide-ranging styles from around the world (Central Asian, Native American, Middle Eastern), and uses voices in mysterious and occasionally outrageous ways. It may be non-commercial, but, according to our informal focus groups, it is also entertaining to listen to.
You may laugh, scream, or say "wow"... Give it a listen and let us know!
