Quietly violent? Magical - Beautiful Indeed! I love it when the aesthetics represent the music - there is a sense of detail & completeness here, a cd to lull your senses, and sweep you away to another place.

This disc came with a black feather inside the jewel case, pressed beneath the CD, which just about sums up the music: dark and beautiful, soft and intricate. The melodies are like familiar strangers, making you wonder why no one has thought of them before. Julia Frodahl sings with a dying fall, and her autumn bonfire voice is in the often fragile company of piano and strings, while discarnate voices and electronic ephemera drift in and out of the shadows. This is liminal music, but it is a threshold leading to somewhere with a little less light than where you started from - twilight, the muffled end of the year, or a room that shouldn't feel so empty. Ahhh, the perfect music for cold, cloud-shrouded autumn days when the weather can't decide to drizzle or snow; those quaint, contemplative, tea-drinking mornings curled up in a comforter by a window, looking out at the tattered carpets of leaves covering the wet, gray sidewalks, the occasional neighbor kid riding by on his bike, his breath a miniature cloud trailing along. These wispy, tender, moody, torchy, dreamy, electronic pop songs, with occasional cello and violin, weave through smoky vocals, drifty, looping keyboard lines, and an otherworldly, cosmic drift that speaks completely to the imagination. Music for recharging your daydreams.
