NYC folktwangpop singersongwriter Amy Speace's first CD, "Tattoed Queen", released with her first band Edith O., is sassy folk/pop, "warm and comforting like a cup of hot cocoa at the end of a long day" (Jim Testa, Jersey Beat).
Named for Edith of Ohio, an 18th Century wild child, Edith O. was fronted by the syncretized songwriting & harmonizing talents of Amy Speace & Erin Sullivan, who had been performing together since they were both students at Amherst College. Born at a dank, lower east side theater benefit, opening for a flame-throwing, foul-mouthed, baton-twirling poetess, Amy & Erin moved quickly to playing NYC clubs like Sine Cafe, Sidewalk, The Bitter End and CB's Gallery and garnered a loyal following. The women went their separate musical ways when Erin moved to LA with her husband and baby. Amy Speace is working on her debut solo release and now plays out with her band under her own name.

They give folk/pop a new name

The lyrics are like short stories, each providing a brief, but telling glimpse into a moment, a relationship, or a feeling, delivered in warm two-part harmonies set to gently rocking, twanging melodies. Tattooed Queen is a thoroughly delightful listen, warm and comforting like a cup of hot cocoa at the end of a long day.

author: Matt Machaffie, The Next Big ThingEdith O. is...a joy to behold. They show more of a pop side of the folk-pop genre and draw inevitable Indigo Girls comparisons. Speace and Sullivan's output is a collaborative effort but the songwriting is individual...the precious is adroitly side-stepped by the edgy more aggressive stance of Amy Speace. The Speace penned songs just jump of the CD. Songs like the ultra catchy, "Hey Mister", the pretty imagery in "Chesapeake Bay" and the Sade-esque "Wasted Language" and the clever point of view of "Cows."
