notes

Originally from Edinburgh Scotland, Ed Miller has been based for the 2nd half of his life in Austin TX. He first came to the USA to do graduate studies in Geography and Folklore at the University of Texas; but since the 1980's has gradually moved from academia to full-time performing, taking his songs, stories and droll humor to festivals, clubs, house concerts and Highland Games throughout N. America. A product of the 1960's/70's folk revival in Britain, he is blessed with a voice "as smooth and satisfying as a good single malt whisky." Brian McNeill, singer, musician and songwriter describes him as "currently the best Scottish singer," and he should know, having produced Ed's last 2 CD's.

Ed's repertoire covers the whole spectrum of Scottish folk music, from old ballads and songs of Robert Burns to more recent songs that adding to the huge store of Scots songs. If you are looking for Brigadoon and Braveheart Scottish nostalgic/romantic schlock, this is not the singer for you; but if you want good songs sung well, he's your man.
When not on the road, Ed also hosts a long-running folk music show on Austin's KUT-FM radio station, and he has expanded his activities into taking folksong based tours to Scotland each year, and teaching at various folk music camps.
On his recordings, Ed has wonderful help from top musicans such as Brian McNeill, John Taylor and Rich Brotherton

I first listened to THe Prince of Darkness on Highlander radio. That song hit me hard and i had to have the whole CD. I didnt waste my money either, great tracks on the CD, especially The Prince of Darkness. Great CD!

  • A great selection, poignant, funny, and a beautiful sound.

This CD is great. I had first heard of Ed Miller on Highlander Radio (Live 365). I heard his song, which is on this CD (and the best in my opinion), The Prince of Darkness. After hearing it twice and trying to explain it to my wife and brother, I gave up an ordered it from CD Baby, overnighting it so I could have it to play for my family at Thanksgiving. They all loved it too. Other songs that stood out to me were the Reivers and Rivers, a beautiful combination of an old cowboy song and a new celtic sound, Cholesterol, a funny pub-type sound declaring love for fattening foods, In Your Heart Home With You, a reaction against the over-romancing of Scotland, and Heather on the Moor, a song of almost acquired love. The liner notes were good as well, with a few sentences explaining the thought behind a song, as well as some translations of Scottish dialect for newcomers (which I appreciated). I highly recommend it.
