Album Notes

1 * Patterns - Cello samples and a synth pad are layered with double bass samples, phonograph surface noise and a recording of flies buzzing around a microphone.

2 * Jen's Solo - The phonograph surface noise returns along with double bass samples, and piano chords run through an elaborate granular re-synthesis patch. The surface noise in this piece reminds me of a soft summer rain shower.

3 * Random Notes - An electric piano sound played through a pitch randomizer and layered with a reversed version of itself is combined with reverbed background textures and a recording of dancers slamming their hands rhythmically onto a wooden floor, run through a ring modulator.

4 * Paul's Solo - Here the phonograph surface noise and granular piano chords return with cello samples played through a Reaktor emulation of a Brian Eno tape delay system used extensively by Robert Fripp on their collaborations as well as his own Frippertronics releases.

5 # Long Turning - Cello harmonic samples are looped and layered with heavily reverbed and filtered water and bird sounds. and a low frequency panning drone.

6 # Mirror - A log drum sample pattern is slowly getting more and more out of phase with other versions of itself while being layered with triangle, reverbed noise and a wooden flute run through a ring modulator.

7 Nambucca - A recording of evening insects in Nambucca, Australia is slowed down 400 percent and layered with slowed down versions of a wooden chinese drum filled with coins being manipulated and some feedback noise.

* These pieces were composed for the dance "Fare Well" choreographed by Paul Matteson and Jennifer Nugent.

# These pieces were composed for the multimedia performance "Resurface" by 7 arts.
