Edmund's Crown is a Nashville rock trio featuring guitarist/singer Greg Pope, drummer David Sprouse, and bassist John Putnam. Their music has been featured on radio and network television shows including NBC's Providence, WB's Dawson's Creek, MTV's WFF Tough Enough, and most recently on UPN's America's Next Top Model hosted by Tyra Banks. The band's sound combines three-minute song forms loaded with surprising twists and billboard-sized choruses that rise from beds of distortion and a seat-kicking rhythm section. Rooted in character-driven rock influences like The Who, The Police, and Big Star the originality of Edmund's Crown shines through via vulnerably ambitious lyrics and a healthy disregard for pop predictability.
The group was formed in 1999 by southeastern rock vets Pope and Sprouse. Pope came to Nashville in 1997 with the modern rock act Eager, which despite significant radio success and album sales of 30,000, split up after the demise of its record label. Undeterred, Pope began rehearsing with musical acquaintance Sprouse. Along with bassist Jeremy Richards they released a 7-song debut, EDMUND'S CROWN: EP, in February 2000, and spent the next year performing regionally to support it. The next year, the group released their first full-length effort, EDMUND'S CROWN, which was hailed by critics and fans alike. In January 2003 the group released EDMUND'S CROWN: COLLECTED, which features select tracks and unreleased recordings from their first two projects as well as two new songs. Bassist John Putnam, an friend of the band joined up after Richards returned to his home state of Iowa.
With a brand new project nearing completion, Greg, John, and David are optimistic about the future. "It's hard to stand out in a town like Nashville," says Pope, "but we're still together making music that we like-which could be our greatest accomplishment." Edmund's Crown is "Made To Soar"
author: Richard HinrichsenI enjoyed these power pop offerings and especially related to "There must be more to this life..." There is! Find it in this music people.
refreshing break
Edmund's Crown is multi-talented and simply entertaining. They offer a refreshing break from the norm of the all-too-prevelant band that just tries too hard. Great words, good melodies and beautiful harmonies. Voices are very strong and nostalgic.
a true diamond in the rough
author: ActionCollected is a great 'collection' of radio/soundtrack ready tunes that are true ear candy. Uplifting, engaging, and high-octane, I can't believe I don't hear this music in more movies, dramas, and concert halls. If you want a true gem in a world of 'wannabes' and 'thatwaspopular10yearsago', this is the CD for you.

Wonderful collection of smooth vocals and rocking guitar melodies.
this is as good as it gets - this CD is "all killer, no filler."
author: Gary Glauber, fufkin.com, popmatters.comGreg Pope (guitars, lead vocals) has a knack for writing the kind of infectious hook-laden ear candy that goes down easily and lasts long after the disc has stopped spinning these three-to-four minute gems. Several of these songs already have made their way onto soundtracks of various television shows and it's no great surprise. *Collected* delivers a baker's dozen tracks that all seem very radio ready and polished. The three young men who comprise Edmund's Crown are accomplished musicians who take great care to get the details right. In the end, the listener has only to sit back and succumb to the smoothness of the sounds, the harmonies, the musicianship, the nuances and hooks and insightful lyrics. All told, it's quite an achievement. Collected is a powerful and confident collection of classically pleasant pop/rock that seems instantly familiar and totally enjoyable.
Simply Irresistible!
author: Debi Gilley - CopperTree EntertainmentNothing about the music of Edmund's Crown is an acquired taste. Pick a track, any track... you'll be addicted before the second verse. Engaging guitar riffs, uncompromising rhythms, and delicious melodies are the recipe to this hit-making machine's success. Liken them to some of your favorite bands if you wish, but Greg Pope's voice is one of a kind. So, buy the record and add it to your daily diet. It's time to deliver this band their "just desserts" !!
I think this may be their best work yet.
author: Anony MousI really like the way their work is progressing on this CD. My favorite track is Made to Soar. I think they are really starting to have their own sound, and to hang together as a band. Way to go, Edmunds Crown!
Buy this album!!!
author: Lynette VantreeseThis is one of the best albums I’ve heard a in a LONG time! My favorite tracks are “Made to Soar,” “I’m On, She’s Off,” and “Shining Stars,” but all of the songs are excellent! Do yourself a favor and buy a copy. Buy copies for your friends. Buy copies for your friends’ friends. This band deserves to be heard!
Infectious. You have to hear this CD.
author: local fanInfectious. You have to hear this CD. The lyrics hold up and the songs hang together to make a complete, great album from beginning to end, with trace amounts of influence from 70s AC/DC to 80s Replacements to 90s Collective Soul to something for today. I can't get it out of my head. And I don't want to.
highly poignant lyrics...consistently catchy tunes...
author: The Phantom Tollbooth...The story-telling "Made to Soar" transitions nimbly between the light, breezy pop of its verses and a meaty, riff-driven chorus that most '70s classic rockers would love to have written..."Your Way Mine," which careens like a brakeless go-cart running down a steep hill, features plenty of the quirky, carefree early '80s new wave..."I'm On She's Off" steers well clear of cliche in its look at the similarly well-trodden theme of life on the road. Perhaps the album's most poignant imagery, though, belongs to the wistful "Shining Star," whose driving musical section and solemn, thought-provoking lyrics instill the gripping anthem with a simultaneous sense of both tragedy and exhortation. .. the lion's share of its songs are likely to find favor even with listeners who have never heard of groups like Big Star or the Raspberries, its highly poignant lyrics and consistently catchy tunes are bound to hit a particularly sweet and familiar resonance with the small cluster of pop lovers who remember the place from whence their favorite music first sprang.
...fresh and engaging...
author: Performer MagazineA post-grunge/power pop sound that's fresh and engaging. The harmonies between Pope and bassist Jeremy Richards mesh well, while David Sprouse's drumming provides a distinct edge.
...the album rocks...
author: Jevon The TallFunny how some great band's go unsigned...What I really like is the positive energy the band exudes. They didn't have to get all pissed off and angry to create musical tension. Doesn't hurt that the album rocks. I dare you to visit their site and snag a copy for yourself.
"smooth melodies and hard rock force..."
author: The Nashville Scene....a clear point of reference for this impressive local trio (is) sun-dazed Scottish power poppers like BMX Bandits and The Vaselines. Southeastern modern rock vets Greg Pope and David Sprouse alongside Belmont draftee Jeremy Richards, accentuate smooth melodies and hard rock force, but the band's butter is their arrangements, which are predicated on the idea of staying one step ahead of their listeners without ever leaving them behind. Pop into their gig to see and hear how some of the best aspects of the '90s alt-rock may survive into the Aughts.
"ultra catchy, hook-laden music..."
author: DigitalCity.comUltra-catchy hook laden music. The chords weave around like a Beatles-based thrill ride, while the performance possesses the rock bravado of Nirvana. Aided by a solid rhythm section, tight harmonies and the genuine sense that the band, guitarist/singer Greg Pope, bassist Jeremy Richards, and drummer David Sprouse, are really enjoying themselves, Edmund's Crown may soon be the kings of Nashville's pop scene.
