Album Notes

ed started playing the piano when he was five years old. it was clear from the very beginning that music was ed's calling; within months of starting lessons, he displayed an impressive mastery of such complex songs as "mary had a little lamb" and "twinkle, twinkle, little star" and shortly thereafter acquired the ability to play two notes at the same time. before long, ed was performing "chopsticks" on a regular basis for any and all visitors to the rhee household.

ed was born in van nuys, CA but moved to philadelphia, PA because philly had the fresh prince and dj jazzy jeff; van nuys did not. philly also had those steps that sylvester stallone ran on in 'rocky.' however, unbeknownst to ed, his cross-country relocation inadvertently set off the whole east coast vs. west coast rap war, for which he has been meaning to apologize for quite some time now. his bust.

while growing up in philadelphia, ed attended a local school well-known for its performing arts program and soon began playing and traveling with all four of the school's musical groups. the jazz band proved to be the most influential of the four, instilling in ed both a strong sense of rhythm and an aversion to all forms of bad music.

college saw ed's return to southern california, and it was during his fourth year as a prestigious undeclared studies major at UCLA that he decided to seriously pursue a career in music. having grown accustomed to the academic rigors of not having a major, ed stayed an extra year to complete his studies and to musically prepare himself for the road ahead. part of this preparation included various methods of vocal self-teaching, of which singing in the shower played a major part. seriously.

ed brings a vibrant originality to today's music scene, a sound driven by his unique brand of piano-based rock. armed with a keyboard and a healthy dose of boyish charm, ed is looking to make a name for himself in the los angeles music scene and beyond. having already played multiple times to crowds numbering in the thousands, he seems poised to do just that.

REVIEWS

one part nostalgic, two parts dreamer..

For all you Jamie Cullum fans out there, here's something new to stimulate the auditory palette. Resembling more his earlier work circa the Pointless Nostalgic era (minus all the covers) in frame of mind, Ed is smoother in sound and not so much jazz as he is pop. All four songs immediately draw you in, but Cinderella is when he is truly in his element, syncopating away at the keyboard while remaining charmingly disarming in his self-deprecation. John Mayer would be the obvious comparison, but like Jamie, the guy has got spirit.

The CD is an amazing start to the Ed Rhee dynasty. Its easy listening and the lyrics are so college oriented. For any of you who want something new, heres a quality sound that will definitely cater to your liking. Despite the limited number of tracks, you can't help but to put it on repeat and jam along. Ed's got a great voice and so much talent. He's the next big thing. So in summation: CD is awesome, Ed is awesome, if you want to be awesome, join the Ed Rhee legacy!!

ed's lyrics are poignant without being saccharine and intelligent without being pretentious. the piano is percussive and catchy... one gets the feeling that he could, in fact, have produced the same sound without the help of drums. smooth picture too. =)
