Album Notes

ED ROBINSON “SMOOTH & ROMANTIC” PPM Productions, Inc.

This is a very special project.
“Smooth & Romantic” was recorded in several countries throughout Europe & Scandinavia. A lot of great talent
came together to complement a true Artist, Ed Robinson.
Ed is a singer, musician, arranger whose performances in Europe and Scandinavia
and Africa have been favorably recognized by “London’s Business Weekly” Magazine(England), “British Air Flight Magazine” and Chief Entertainment Editor of “The Michigan Chronicle,”Steve Holsey, Personal complements also came from Quincy Jones, George Benson, Isaac Hayes,Samuel Jackson to name a few.

This collection of songs include standards written by
some of the greatest composers and originally performed
by some of greatest perforomers of all times. One such song, “All The Way,” composed by Sammy Cahn & Jimmy Van Heusen, was one of Frank Sinatra's personal favorites.

Another great but rare ballad, “Everything Happens To Me,” written by Matt Dennis and Montgomery Adair, was recorded by both Nat King Cole and Frank Sinatra. Not to be excluded from this “Smooth & Romantic” collection of great & timeless songs is the beautifully written masterpiece, “A Cottage For Sale,” composed by Larry Conley & Willard Robinson. This song was recorded and made popular by the great voice of Billy Eckstine. The beautiful ballad, “There will Never Be Another You,” composed by Mack Gordon & Henry Warren, performed by the Ed Robinson Jazz Trio,is a great example of interpretation with a replenishing splendor, aged by time, that grows increasingly sweeter with each play.
One song, of the remaining seven written and arranged by Ed, deserves special attention is, “If Only.” During the session, in Nurnberg Germany, Ed was accompanied by two lovely guests; Diane Elias & Nancy Harmesten. The angelic voices of these two international Opera Divas produced a richness of tone heard only from the opera stage. The These two magnificent divas is truly unmistakeable. Such rare combination of Classical Diva voices blended with the creative arrangement of soulful smooth jazz melodies is an event of beauty and majesty to behold.

The Musicians.
This unique project also features a great line up of legendary musicians. The list begins with bassist Hubie Crawford (acoustic upright and electric) heard on a
number of Jazz recordings by guitarist, Earl Klugh. Bobby Bachinger, a talented drummer & percussionist from the Barvarian region of Germany, is also heard on recordings by popular singer, Sade. Bobby Franklin, a multi-talented Guitarist and drummer can be heard on a number of recordings by the late great Curtis Mayfield. The Jazz guitar of Paul Weeden, genius and former member of the legendary Duke Ellington orchestra, is a valuable element to the arrangement. To sweeten the lineup, piano and keyboard work is performed ‘master of the keys,’ Ed Robinson, a genius in his own right. His arrangement of the song, “There Will Never Be Another You”(Jazz trio style) features the accomplished works of Bobby Franklin on drums and the incomparable genius of Fred “Guy” Hutson playing electric bass, . Notice of mention is also extended to the number of fine and talented musicians in
Finland , Norway & Sweden who contributed so greatly towards to the success of this project.
In the song, “Special,” listen to the voices of “How Many Sisters” a group in Helsinki. Their
voices are dynamite! Now are you beginning to see values of musicianship in this project?

Several of these performances were recorded live in Switzerland. Others, were recorded in Helsinki Finland, Stockholm Sweden, Nurnberg Germany and Detroit, USA.

Coming Soon-
Watch for the next CD release featuring kool, original, refreshing and ‘free- form’ piano expressions. This will be a unique project to include in your collection of very special music!!
