Ottville is a story of political turmoil in a divided town in which the wealthy have complete rule, while the workers are forced to live in poverty. The show includes rioting, political assassination, and oppression. The socialistic striking of the almost fascist government leads to several changes in the political scene until finally both classes realize that Ottville and its way is no way to live.
Frederick, Toby, as well as some fellow poor workers lead a revolt against the government, aimed mainly at the despised Colonel Robert Stagston and Henry Ottman, the figurehead of the town. Victoria, Henry's niece, is sick of the Colonel's marriage proposals and seeks love in someone different: Frederick. The Colonel then vows to antagonize Frederick, but is sidetracked by his political ambitions to gain control of Ottville. General Stagston, Robert Stagston's father, as well as Henry Ottman lead strongly in tradition. While Henry Ottman seems to have a sudden change of heart, Colonel Stagston deems it unacceptable to break the traditions that have been in place for so long. The ending of the show is one of death, romance, and escape... and by the way, it's a comedy.
