notes
"Songs in the Key of Sea" is the first in a series of Sailing and Whaling Song CDs titled "The Sea Shantey Series." Some of the songs have been a part of maritime life for 400 years.
The productions maintain the integrity of the songs, as well as adding a contemporary sound and texture which combine to result in something very original and a unique "must have" product for any sailor, sea enthusiast, or lover of maritime music.
Jon Edwards was raised in the whaling ports of Massachusetts, and later moved to Hawaii. For 10 years he headlined a show on major Hawaii cruise lines featuring nautical songs and stories. The enthusiastic reception to these songs has resulted in shows in such beautiful locales as Fiji, Samoa, Guam, Great Britain and more.
Look for the next CD in the series, "Songs from the Jolly Gale" due out this summer!

Tears to my eyes and a smile to my face
author: Jeff "clutch" HillOf all the sailing and whaling CD's in my collection, this one is my absolute favorite. With his resonant voice and soulful inflection, this versatile artist's songs bring tears to my eyes almost as readily as they bring a smile to my face. Truly a "must have CD" for any seafarer or seafarer-at-heart. Keep up the great work!

This CD is wonderful.Tastefully orchestrated and arranged. It has the qualities of being relaxing musically, as well as lyrically imaginitive, and even inspiring. I urge anyone who loves folk music to buy this CD.

Very soothing enjoyable listening. Just what you would expect to hear from old "Tars" out to sea. I play it to relax from the stresses of the days.

Takes me back to my childhood, when my dad used to sing us old-time sea shanteys and other folk tunes... Edwards has really dedicated himself to finding these tunes and re-creating the flavor!

This has to be the most authentic sea shantey CD I've ever heard. The instrumentation strives to duplicate the original instruments that sailors used.
