Edwin Orion Brownell Biography

Over the last two decades Edwin Orion Brownell has been electrifying audiences in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and across Canada with performances of his original compositions. He began playing the piano at four years of age, and two years later began studying with the Royal Conservatory. After a successful international career playing and touring with popular music ensembles, including his own group Edwin & the Bedouins, Edwin returned to his roots, focusing on the romantic repertoire and specializing in the music of Chopin and Tchaikovsky. Working for ten years with ballet companies, most notably Ballet Divertimento, he began improvising pieces for the dancers which later became the basis for his early compositions "The Hummingird Waltz," "The Tangiers Suite," and "The Magyk Forest." His first two classical albums "Maimonides Pops" and "Music of the Dance" were released at sold out concerts at La Place des Arts in Montreal in 2005, and featured these works as well as selections by Beethoven, Chopin, Delibes, Strauss and Tchaikovsky. Over the last three years he has concentrated even more on writing, and has just released "Journey of the Spirit" his first double album devoted exclusively to his original works. This album will be released on his return to Place des Arts on May 25th 2008 as well as on tour dates in Turkey and Israel scheduled later in the year.
