Album Notes

Ego and The Ids is a musical project: It is a collaboration by musicians who wish to communicate something beautiful and huge with sound while exploiting music's ability to make people feel something they can relate to. It is about evoking mental images of life, death and everything in between, always taking the time to show the grandeur of the human experience. Who do Ego and The Ids listen to? Cocteau Twins, Dead Can Dance, Stoa, James, Concrete Blonde, Leonard Cohen, Human Drama, The Clan of Xymox, The Misfits, The Swans, This Mortal Coil, Cranberries, Sisters of Mercy, NIN, The Cult, Joy Division, Fields Of The Nephilim, The Cure, Velvet Underground, Elliot Smith, Pink Floyd, U2, Marillion, Porcupine Tree, etc... Ego and The Ids is like real life, and real chocolate. It is simultaneously bitter and sweet. It is uplifting and tragic at the same time. We view music as an alchemical process. Simply put, our music is orchestral, melodic, and experimental. We hope you enjoy it.

time travel is possible with this music

One can definitely "feel" the influences they list (Pink Floyd, This Mortal Coil and Dead Can Dance) on this release. What is surprising to me as a fan of "underground" music that originates in the UK is how well this Portland musical project has been able to include those influences to create something unique. After visiting their web site (www.egoandtheids.com) and googling the members of the project I found that Delonde Bell has also released some music in the form of an album called "Pearls." Also, Gerald del Campo appears to be the same fellow who has written several books in the area of magic, the occult and metaphysics, as well as being the bass player for Portland's indie-psyche-rock band Trick Sensei. The music in this album does have a metaphysical flavour to it, as though it is steeped in mythology, and in fact, one of my favorite tracks "March of The Woodland Fairies" seems to tell an all too familiar story, and without the use of lyrics, which is a pretty neat trick. I am anxious to see what Ego and The Ids does next.
