Sacred and solemn tunes
author: San Francisco Spectrum
"Feminist sensibilities might be soothed into just chillin' a bit with sacred and solemn tunes as well as upbeat songs...really, she rocks or, at least, folk rocks and serves up a great vibe akin to the Indigo Girls. Her sweet soulful voice works through the truth that each must find for themselves."

searching, self-reflective, wise but hopeful
author: Chris Roth, Talking Leaves: A Journal of Our Evolving Ecological
Eileen issued her first CD, My Interesting Condition, in 2001 on Folkdiva Records (www.folkdiva.com). Her original folk-rock spans the gamut from the personal to the political. It is searching, self-reflective, wise but hopeful: I am not one who gives up easily / Where I find a hole, I'll plant a seed... In several songs, Eileen addresses relationship issues from angles ranging from vulnerable--the loneliness inside here is wide open space--to bemusedly self-deprecating: Love is just a fantasy / My big overdeveloped and highly evolved brain was only fooling me. Terrorist--written during the 1998 US bombing of Iraq, and updated after September 11, 2001--is a sobering look at US policies: Do you believe that peace can come from war somehow? / Tell me, who is the terrorist now?
The title track, closing the album, is among its strongest, epitomizing Eileen's mixture of self-awareness and humor: I sleep too much to be so tired / I'm too poor to retire / Too middle class to feel so poor / Too entertained to be bored / I am a mess of contradiction / This is my interesting condition. Eileen is ably assisted by friends including Lisa Zeiler and Andrea Prichett (of Rebecca Riots), Green, and even Lost Valley's own Malachite Wilder, who temporarily steals the spotlight by doing an a capella rendition of ABC.
