Balancing Act (2000), points in directions such as swing, Celtoid rock and funk, and old-fashioned hokum-jazz, while retaining the wit and traditional leanings of elh's previous recordings. Cellist/songwriter/sonic adventurer Gideon Freudmann produced the album. He makes several guest appearances and brings ELH a sharper focus, fuller sound, and some (mostly) subtle uses of electronics. A remixed version of "Walnut Grained Vinyl Veneer" features Derek Gross on vocals and Matt Swift (the auter) on bass guitar. Recorded and Mixed at Signature Sounds, Palmer, MA, March-September 1999.
