Album Notes

In 1961, former Presidential candidate John Kerry was part of a prep school band called The Electras. They pressed 500 copies of a "vanity" album, and 40 years later, the album was rediscovered. This is the authentic reissue, with original artwork and liner notes, as well as a photo of the young men who made up the band. Copies of the original have sold for more than $2,500. The reissue is a limited edition as well, and is destined to become a collector's item in its own right!

Kerry's Cool!!
author: Mark Gordon-Tennant
I'm Canadian & I brought my Electras cd on E-Bay in 2004 from a guy in Chicago. The world wasn't big enough for 2 catholic presidents with the initials JFK, this is a shame for Pres Kennedy was great, The Electras are great, & John Forbes Kerry would've been a fantastic president!

Actually, very excellent music.

Dispite the well known bass player, The Electras are a very talented group and it is too bad they could not have made more records during their career. They obviously had quite a bit of talent for the time. I find it interesting they had a west coast, surf sound even though they were based in the east. If they had more records, I believe they would have been up there with the other hit makers of that day.

60's Garage Rock at it's most typical.
author: Tim Verthein
I give this 5 stars mostly because I love vintage small town, independent garage band music, and this is all of that and more. The recording quality is interesting, on a few tunes they really should have moved the mic away from the bass amp! This would have probably died in obscurity if John Kerry wasn't making a run for the Presidency, and that's too bad, 'cause stuff like this is really fun. I was expecting all instrumental cuts and was delighted to find two vocals, Summertime Blues and Ya Ya. Unfortunate that the notes don't credit which member is the vocalist. Sort of a low budget version of the Kingsmen, and the original liner notes are a real hoot. Sounds best when played LOUD. A great snippet of history...kids making rock and roll, the way it should be.
