The sounds of Goddamn Electric Bill were never meant to leave Jason Torbert’s bedroom. But the one-man band, a propulsive blend of ambient electronic, folktronica and post-rock music, made its way out to the world anyway.
Since 2004, Goddamn Electric Bill has been nominated for several San Diego Music Awards, licensed music for television and film, released two full-length albums on 99X/10 Records (run by former The Cure keysman Roger O’Donnell), including the new 2008 release “Topics For Gossip,” and been featured in San Diego CityBEAT and Music Matters Magazine. But Torbert isn’t new to the musical arena.
Torbert’s suburban childhood was spent playing trombone in high school and college Jazz Ensembles. It was at University of Oregon that Torbert began his seven-year stint as the bassist for a popular punk outfit called Cigar. The band eventually signed to a label run by Pennywise guitarist Fletcher Dragge and toured internationally before calling it quits. He tried his luck at a few other projects, including one band that signed to At The Drive-In/Sparta front man Jim Ward’s label, Restart Records, but Torbert figured out that the band life wasn’t for him.
It was the sounds Torbert made on his own – from bass, guitar, rhodes, sitar, mbira, minimal vocals, percussion and synthesizers - that turned into Goddamn Electric Bill. And it is those sounds that continue to cause a stir.

Yes It Does Please!!

I enjoy "discovering" new music or new bands and am glad I purchased this CD by Goddamn Electric Bill.
The opening track grabbed my attention straight away and the rest of the tracks kept my attention.
Country Jam is the "rockiest" this album gets!! The music is relaxing, downbeat and wonderous. I enjoy the sliding sound of the guitar on Country Jam and the build up of dynamics in the mid-way point.
Climbing Spiral Stairs - You feel as though you are climbing the spiral stairs with this consistent rhythm.
Hokkaido - 2nd largest Japanese island so for Bill it must have some meaning! Simple guitar rhythm with a good steady drum beat, the track then slows down before the guitar sequence returns.
Oui-Ja - I love the guitar picking in the opening of this track, inviting me to pause and reflect, time-out from the hum-drum. I love the way it begins to uplift with the keyboards and single bass note. This track makes me want to close my eyes and feel as though I am flying. Bill are you use over laying your guitar track at time 2:20 into this track?? I love the effect of the multiple guitars. Oui-Ja is a method of invitation for spirits. Oui-Ja for me is an invitation to free my spirit, to fly to soar. Thanks!!
I think my favourite track on the album.
The Other Way Out - The most vocal track on the album! "And the dream say ..." Nice steady pulse.
Cab - Another track that I enjoy while driving, helps time drift along.
Would I recommend this album - Emphatic yes, if you are a fan of relaxing, ambient music. Music that helps you switch of for a wee bit and to chill!!
Enjoy, I did and still do!

I am a hard fiend to please when it comes to my music but this is sensational music. I love it.
At this price it is a genuine bargain.
To think, I only came across this by chance when I was looking to buy some chill-out music on CDbaby.

I bought this album knowing nothing about GDEB, based on the short samples provided on CD Baby. Its beautiful and has quickly become one of my favourite albums.
Its so musical, natural and flows beautifully. I want more.

Absolutely beautiful.
When music can make one feel as though that was perfectly natural & logical....not that one could, or did, conceived it themself.....is evidence of a gorgeous and a natural talent at work.
Perfect blends. Perfect to work away to. Perfect soundtrack for a great, underground, clever, deep and poignant movie that needs to be made.
It's a pleasure to be able to hear the goodness of the soul within the music itself. Lovely treat.
Glad the artist decided to open up & reveal this quiet part of himself, for all to enjoy.
The world needs more creating contributors in the world.
Simply - thank you.
