Album Notes

Electricoolade’s first full-length effort Super Hero was described by legendary punk rock magazine Flipside as an addictive mix of indie, alternative rock and rock-n-roll. “Soda Ride” the opening track is probably the song that best sums up that description. After fading into a big rock riff, the rhythm and vocal began to shed light on the bands influences. The first thing that comes to mind is front man Frankie Medina’s Prince like vocals. The song then cruises into an explosive chorus where the singing turns into more of a Westerberg-ish howl. The band displays a great dynamic on this track all the way until the last pounding beats of the song. Throughout the disc Medina and company twist and turn with hyperactive bass lines and start and stop beats like true fans of Elvis Costello’s Attractions.

Some of the notable songs on this lengthy collection are Runnin’, Action and Super Hero where the band shows its punk rock side with arrangements that might remind one of The Replacements only a little more polished at times and at little less at others. Ultimately, Super Hero might not take you too deep but it is definitely an impressive effort from four kids from Santa Fe, NM, a quiet town better known for its art than its music.
