Elephant - Replacing the Man In The Moon
author: J. Potter
A fusion of Jazz, Folk, and a little Pop, it's hard not to like Elephant, especially with the vocal crooning of Catherine Ireton. I'd love to hear their take on some old Jazz Standards, with their own folky little twist. If you like witty lyrics complemented by great vocals and well-placed instrumental stylization, I highly recommend this group. The total album run-time seems a bit short, but it's mostly because the songs are upbeat and leave you wanting more, which is a good thing and means I'm hooked! Favorite tracks are definitely, "If You're Lucky You'll End Up With Someone You Don't Hate," "Goodnight," and "Gordian Knot." This album is the perfect pick-me-up for a good day, bad day, or honestly, any day. Show Elephant some support and check this album out!

Witty and fun
author: Peter - CD Baby Folk Editor
Straight out of Cork: armed with witty, insightful lyrics and an upbeat sound that evokes elements of 60’s folk mixed with peppy modern folk groups like The Decemberists and Belle & Sebastian, this album has a clean, full mix and plenty going for it. With lead vocals from Catherine Ireton, who recently collaborated with Belle & Sebastian leader Stuart Murdoch on the “God Help the Girl” project, the vocals are the clear highlight of many of the songs, while the occasional violin or trumpet help spice things up in the instrumental department. The song titles alone get bonus points, plus jaunty folk pop with the occasional expletive is sure to ruffle a few cardigans. And that’s a good thing. While this style might not be the first sound the comes to mind when you think of Irish music, this is fun stuff and worth checking out.
