Album Notes

Best known as half of the acclaimed acoustic duo, The Brilliant Inventions, Eliot Bronson has recently struck out on his own, with the new album, "Blackbirds."

The Washington Post called The Brilliant Invention's music, “clever contemporary acoustic pop that invites comparison to Ben Folds Five and Fountains of Wayne -- literate story-songs at once amusing and moving, with catchy melodic hooks.” The Atlanta Journal Constitution raved, "bright, witty, and Velcro-catchy pop songs."

The duo also won the famed Eddie's Attic Shootout (won by the likes of John Mayer and Jennifer Nettles of Sugarland), was voted "Best New Music Act" by Atlanta's Creative Loafing, and secured management with Russel Carter ( Indigo Girls, Shawn Mullins, Fastball), all in their first year a performing together!!

In 2009 the band released their long awaited, first studio albumn Have You Changed to critical indie praise. They were picked as emerging artist to play New England's prestigious Falcon Ridge Folk Festival and were voted the coveted "Most Wanted" act to return as main stage performers in 2010.

The band surprisingly ended their partnership in the fall of last year, as plans for a follow up to HYC were being made. Suddenly a solo act, Eliot returned to the folk, and roots music that first drew him to songwriting and went to work on an album all his own. The result is "Blackbirds," an intensely personal, stripped down, rough-edged record that departs from much of TBI's lighter pop material and showcases Eliot's unique poetic voice, and his finest writing to date.

A Songwriter's Songwriter...
author: Lisa Ferreri, Wiffledust

There are songwriters and then there are those among them that I would call “a songwriter’s songwriter.” Eliot Bronson is one of those. His new CD “Blackbirds” is his first solo record since the break-up of The Brilliant Inventions, and it seems as though his work has only become more heartfelt, more touching, more poetic, and more universal. Eliot’s musicality shines through in every song from the swelling melodies to the enchanting harmonies. Each song moves along at its individual pace, and they fit together to make the rhythm of the whole CD drive like a smooth scenic train ride of emotions and reflections. But his lyrics are what will get to you in songs such as “Annabel Avenue” which takes you back in time to those tender memories we all have of growing up in America. “Black Eyed Susan” is a particularly descriptive and a stick-with-you kind of song about home and Baltimore that has a great pulse. Rarely do CD’s present 9 songs worthy of buying the whole CD but “Old Car” and “Merry Christmas” are songs that make you HAVE to buy the record--if only for them. “Old Car” is raw and Springsteen'esque. It’s as simple and as perfect as a song gets. And “Merry Christmas” speaks to the heart of anyone who calls himself a human. “Blackbirds” is one of those records people will seek to find after the artist becomes famous!

I listened to this album 5 or 6 times during my travels over the weekend... it's full of solid songs that never get old. The highlights for me are "Black Eyed Susan" and "Everywhere I Go". Enjoy!
