Album Notes

Sing Songs~Learn Spanish. Spanish language students and teachers will enjoy these fun-filled, entertaining songs written and sung by a former high school Spanish teacher. "Viva La Musica" is a fall 2002 Parents'Choice Approved Award Winner. The 61-page lyric book has the Spanish lyrics alongside the English translations. Adults and students of all ages will enjoy these zestful, lively songs.Beginning Spanish students can benefit from songs using basic vocabulary such as numbers 1-100, greetings, where is...?, and phrases for a doctor's office, store and restaurant.More advanced students will benefit from songs using more complicated grammar. These songs include one about Joselito who always gets into trouble, "When I was a Child," love songs and a lament from someone far from home. The CD is appropriate for elementary students, the first three years of high school and the first year and a half of college study. They are a great addition to any curriculum and are not a complete course. The teacher notes in the book indicate the grammar points and verb tenses for each song. Here's what people are saying about the CD-- "Language classes will enjoy these unique and entertaining songs...'Viva la Musica' is a must for Spanish classes." -School Library Journal, April 2001 "I loved your CD. I teach elementary music and Spanish and ...love to use music with my kids. It's so easy for them to remember with a catchy tune." -Barbara Henderson, elementary teacher, Indiana "Singing is a wonderful way to learn Spanish. Vocabulary, grammar and correct pronunciation are learned without painful memorization. Retention is greater, too. I highly recommend this CD. The songs are short, vocabulary specific and fun." -Dr. Karen Steves, Assistant Professor, Ball State U. "Thanks for something so useful, fun and kid-friendly!" -JoAnne Helland, high school Spanish teacher, Iowa "I enjoyed listening to the variety of songs on the CD....The students were amazed at how much of the song they understood, and the rhythm had them bouncing." -Yvonne McCarthy, high school Spanish teacher, Pennsylvania "My students beg to sing these songs. They sing them in the hallways. They are at the perfect level for students. I can tell a teacher wrote these songs." -Sister Mary Elayne, high school Spanish teacher, Ohio Elise Carr Sumner has about 20 years experience teaching high school Spanish and is currently teaching at a community college. She began writing songs while living in Madrid and started writing songs for her students soon after her teaching career began. She received a B.A. in Spanish from Purdue and an M.A.in Spanish Education from N.Y.U. Mrs. Sumner has spent more than two years studying in Spain.

I have used this CD to teach high school Spanish, but had some disruptive students last year who vandalized it. I decided it was worth enough to re-order for my personal use, even though I'm no longer teaching school. I am fluent in Spanish, but I'm hoping it will help my husband and some friends from florida learn. It is well worth the money!
