Album Notes

Eliza Bonacci aka Eliza Blue writes and sings with a voice like water from a deep well, as earthy and rich as it is sweet and clear. Trained as a classical violinist, Eliza grew up listening to folk and blues on her Fisher-Price record player, but had little vocal instruction. She took up the fiddle after falling in love with old timey music and soon began writing songs of her own. Guitar came next, and then mandolin and banjo. Her music regularly draws comparisons to Gillian Welch, for it’s homage to Appalachian roots, but the quality and timbre of her voice call to mind some of the great jazz vocalists. Since she began her songwriting career three years ago Eliza has crossed the country several times, and averages over a 150 gigs a year.

'One Year,' Eliza Blue's first recordings, capture the songwriter's intimate beginnings. The result is a simple but stirring compilation of songs recorded over the space of a year. All the songs are written, recorded, and produced by Eliza and Paul Miksic. They are also responsible for all the instrumentation on the album. 'One Year,' has received airplay in Minnesota, on the East Coast, and in Belgium.

"traditional music is coming back like the blues did 30 years ago...with that folkin' wave comes elizablue, a celtic folk band with a dark saturine lugubrious sound. they are new to the music scene and young. they are experienced as musicians though, and have a nice sound...elizablue really seems genuine. as they grow and reach their pinnacle as songwriters [their] deep inward soul searching will pay off, like another folkie/rocker, john lennon."

"Eliza Blue craft acoustic ballads filled with sorrowful sentiment and minor-key inflections. Their debut release, One Year, features the rich voice of Elizabeth Bonacci, who instills each tune with powerful...melodies. The band's music is lush and sorrowful; each song wallows in exquisite misery...Fans of Nick Drake will find much to enjoy here; Eliza Blue's downcast temperament has plenty in common with the tragic folkie. Several cuts would sound perfectly natural on a mix tape alongside Drake's most heart-wrenching numbers."
