notes

Elaine, Lambert & Karl

It was a natural development that these three singer/ songwriters would come together. Their mutual respect for one another, as well as their common desire to be a positive influence on the world around them has made the union of these three lifelong friends inevitable.

The combined list of songs and lyrics that they have written or chosen to perform are filled with a unified message of hope and brotherhood, with the caring and understanding of those who know what these honorable qualities are worth. To experience a performance of E.L.K. is to be reminded of a better place, where all are accepted and valued in this celebration of life through the beautiful fellowship of music.

This independent group of troubadours has traveled to an expanding list of cities across the country welcomed by a growing crowd of patrons who seem to be searching for the gifts that these three so thoughtfully and effortlessly share. November, 2000, finds this trio opening for 2 time Grammy award winner, Keb' Mo' on the mid-western section of the national tour.

Elaine, Lambert & Karl have recently released their debut CD: "Live Simple, Breathe Deep." Guest artists appearing on this CD include Mark Andes on bass, Rob Hooper on drums, Cha-Cha Friedkin on keyboards, Eddie Williams on sax, and Clayton Gibb on mandolin & percussion (as well as engineering and producing).

There aren't many CD's that you can listen to every day and still love. This is my fourth copy of this CD as I have given it to other friends and family members to enjoy. I can't think of any other group that I recommend so highly. Even my six month old son LOVES their music! Thanks for all of the wonderful memories!

  • AMAZING
    author: Patrick Horan

After buying this CD at an E.L.K. concert from Elaine, I haven't been able to stop listening to it. I'm listening to it in the car, in school when I can, everywhere. It is the most inspiring, uplifting music I've heard. The songs grab you and carry you to places you can't imagine. They carry you to a place that is better, happier. It speaks of simple times, like how love is all you need to be free. It is a CD that will affect you from the first note of "Home" straight through the closing part of "Say Goodnight" I'm just so glad that these three people came together. Individually they are wonderful, but together they are truly beautiful!

  • A Breath of Fresh Air...Genuine & Authentic
author: Harriet Schock, Platinum Songwriter/recording Artist/author

Elaine, Lambert and Karl are authentic. This comes across when they record and when they perform. The genuineness of the love they give to the audience and each other is captured on their new wonderful CD, which is rare. I'm proud to be represented on the CD with a song, which they do so well, I'd rather hear them do it than sing it myself. Seeing and hearing them is like a breath of fresh air--a deep one.

  • Transcendent Harmonies, Inspiring Lyricss...A True Gem
    author: John Ince

In a world where mediocre musicians are often overhyped, by overly aggressive and overpaid publicists, it's a rare pleasure to discover a truly talented group that is spending more time and energy, creating and playing than promoting. The "Live simple, Breathe Deep" CD by Elaine Lambert and Karl is the genuine article. It lives up to it's name. Their beautifully crafted lyrics and transcendent harmonies make "breathing in deeply" a natural and effortless process. What you have in this CD is the pure, unadulterated sweetness of sound by three truly dedicated musicians: Elaine Dempsey, L.E. Lambert and Karl Werne. They remain uncorrupted by the trappings of the music business, and emote an energy that simply makes you feel good about yourself and this world. There isn't a weak cut on the album. Every one is a gem. Several of the cuts like "Find Joy" and the title track "Live Simple, Breathe Deep" accomplish what only the very best artists amongst us accomplish in out peak moments: they bring us in touch with the larger truths -and reminds us of what is really important in our existence. "Ready to Fly" is a beautiful rendition of Greg Beattie's elegiac song about a resident in a retirement community, preparing psychologically to die. "Beggar's Audience" written by Elaine Dempsey and sung by Lambert is a moving tribute to grittiness in the midst of chilling reality. Others cuts like "La La Land, and "After This" are simply enjoyable listening-with a lilt to lift the spirits. All three are gifted musicians, and on several of the cuts their harmonies approach transcendent levels beauty. To call the CD inspiring would not be overstatement. If we existed in a world of musical justice, it would be Elaine, Lambert and Karl, who would be at the top of the charts, instead of the sort of flack and fluff that too often degrades the standards by which we judge good music.

  • Uplifting, inspired songs by folks you know
    author: Brother Dave

This CD runs the entire spectrum...uplifting harmonies that inspire while they bring chills (Ready To Fly), to soft, introspective tunes that speak to us all (Beggar's Audience,The 12:01). Other standouts include La-La Land and Home, and when all is said and done, then After This caps it all off. If you can't catch them live, then pick this CD up and enjoy!

  • Spirit lyrics and harmonies that remind us of the positive collective energy
    author: Kathy Murphy

The spirit lyrics and harmonies remind us of the positive collective energy which is too easily forgotten in these times. Treat yourself well, and buy this CD, you're worth it!

  • This ain't prefab, this is music.
    author: Chris Berdux

This CD harkens back to the day when songwriters ruled. The music may be played upon an acoustic guitar but don’t think its folk. Listen to Cost if you don’t believe me. The playing is impeccable, the lyrics are breathtaking, and the songs are about finding yourself. Buy the CD and remember why you listened to music in the first place. It made you feel and think differently.

  • BUY IT!
    author: Sam Spicer

Just don't think, buy it. It will lull you, sweep you up and make you think. Then it will leave you more contented that it found you, and what better thing is there to say about anything. Folky, bluesy, and just plain real.
