Album Notes

This is Elliot Steger's fourth CD of original jazz compositions and displays his focus on a beautiful melodic line with lush harmonies and creative improvisations. His early classical training combined with his jazz background through a teacher at the Berklee College of Music are evident in his improvisations. Many of these orignal songs have interesting rhythm changes from latin or jazz waltz to swing.
He is joined by Lello Molinari on acoustic bass and Jon Hazilla on drums, both recording artists and professors at the Berklee College of Music providing a very together rhythm section and great improvisations. Also appearing for the first time with Elliot is a very talented conga player, Christine Horn, adding a latin feel to several of the songs.
Steger was recently nomimated for best instrumental song of the year along with Ahmad Jamal by Just Plain Folks, a musical organization, that screened over 100,000 songs for this competition.
As with his previous CD's, "Images", "Transition", and "Making Time", Steger donates all his CD profits to the American Cancer Society, the Alzheimer's Association, and the Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Fun Jazz piano

I got this CD as a present, and the album is really great. I like Elliot's range of selections, and the interesting harmonic changes and textures he brings out. On the pieces where the band plays too, everyone is together and they blend well, playing off each other. The music is mostly cheerful and upbeat and quite listenable!

Excellent Jazz

Having first heard Elliot play piano in college, and having been impressed to no end even then, I can say that Elliot has continued to grow with each new CD. Joyful Blue is not all joyful, and is certainly not all blues. It is, however, an extremely enjoyable listen. Elliot's piano playing continues to grow in its depth and complexity. He is now backed by a wonderful drum/bass combo, which allows him to explore rythmic variations not as apparent on his earlier CD's. If you are any kind of jazz fan, give it a listen. You won't be disappointed. In fact, even if you are a rock of classical fan, give it a try. Elliot played both, before settling into jazz--and the influences are apparent. Keep up the good work.
