Female honky-grass duo, the Elly Maze has released their self titled album of slightly-scuffed, never fussed over heartfelt renditions. This high quality/low production project captures the band's signature sound. Johnna Maze's Ozark style mandolin and vocal harmonies compliment Loretta Vinson's soul-clutching vocals, rhythm guitar and double bass.Influences are abundant, from the Carters and Stanleys to Gram and Joni.There's something here for everyone.
The Elly Maze'self-produced disc offers five splendid originals and six diverse covers from heroes like Harland Howard ,Tom Petty, George Harrison and Marshall Chapman. I have know Loretta Vinson since she was in middle school! It is so great to see her musical talent still follow her around in such an excellent fashion! I agree with Wise, this is the music I hear in my head, must be something real southern Indiana about that. Great job The Elly Maze! Love the album.

This c.d. has it all...tough enough bluegrass, spooky folk, wayward roots rock, and even a touch of the blues! This is music too good for today's wimpy commercial radio stations. This is true stuff for folks that want real music running through their veins! I love the Elly Maze!!
