Album Notes

According to Elza’s songs, she grew up as a “ball in a game of catch …” She went back and forth between her abstract-mathematician father in Frankfurt, Germany and her visual artist mother in Charleston, SC. Elza, a third generation female, southern artist was raised by her grandparents on the only tea farm in America. Elza began writing songs at age 14, but after moving to NYC, she was soon encouraged to train her voice for an operatic career. Her ability to sing fluently in 5 foreign languages as well as her natural stage presence led Elza to place 1st in the National MacAllister Awards. However, while training in Italy, she realized she had to follow her heart. So she returned to NY to record her self-released CD: Elza and set out to pave her own artistic path as a singer songwriter.

She kicked off her first west coast tour in front of an audience of 30,000 as a featured new artist at The Marin Music Festival opening for Bob Weir’s Rat Dog and closed her tour opening for Atlantic Recording Artist: Martin Sexton in New York. Her songs have been featured on the WB hit series Smallville and she has graced such stages as the legendary Bluebird Café in Nashville, Eddie’s Attic in Atlanta, The Sweetwater in San Francisco, Makor and The Stephen Talkhouse in New York , and The Mint in Los Angeles to name a few. Elza launched into 2004 opening up for Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey at the Orange Bowl New Year’s Beach Bash in Miami, FL.

After seeing Elza live, film director, Demian Lichtenstein, (3,000 Miles to Graceland ) was inspired to include footage of her performing in his next feature film. Both her song, Could’ve Been and Everything To Me, placed in the top 10 in the John Lennon Songwriting Competition. News12 Long Island, the WB Morning Show and UPN 9, NY have featured Elza as an “Artist To Watch.” Just recently, Elza was chosen by the editors of Billboard Magazine as one of 6 Finalists out of 1,700 entries in the DiscMakers: Independent World Music Series. She was recently on the bill with Hootie and the Blowfish in the Charleston, SC Celebrity Golf Classic benefiting Children with cancer and will be making her Canadian debut at Toronto’s Winterfolk Festival Feb. 4-6. Elza actively performs at events such as the Swim Across America for Cancer Research, the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital Annual Event, the Make a Wish Foundation and is passionate about making a difference with her music.

Elza is one of the best and sexiest live performers I’ve seen in a long time.

...a voice that is unmistakable. "Everything To Me" is a song that seems destined to be played on stations all over the world. It has a great pop hook... The Acoustic Radio Sampler
...Elza’s songs are heartfelt, catchy and very well performed. The quality of her voice and her abilities as a musician will definitely set her apart as an artist to watch for.
Dale Hill, Music Connection Magazine

Her songs are addictive, her charm infectious and her voice, well….you’d have to hear it to believe it. Live, she’s the second coming of Joni. Don Menn, founder of Guitar Magazine

The title track is my favorite and I couldn't stop humming it for the rest of the day. Having said that this is one of those great albums where every track is good and you'll want to listen to them over and over. If this is how Elza's work is going to be then we're in for a treat!

I'm a fan of this CD
author: Maï from France
First, I discovered "Everything To Me" thanks to Smallville and I really loved it with the first listening. When I received the CD called "Wide Open" and I listened to it, I said myself that it was good music as I want to listen here in France. I adore the rythm of the songs, the voice of the artist and of course the lyrics. To appreciate a song, the lyrics are important! Now, I know we have a new talented star in the universe of the music. I hope Elza will have more fans in France!!!!!
