Album Notes

"Songs from Alabama Street features Emily Bonn performing original tunes about hollers, highways, riots and soda pop.
As a former member of the critically acclaimed country band, The Whoreshoes, she shared stages with the legendary rockabilly singer, Wanda Jackson, Old Crow Medicine Show and Devil Makes Three. Emily honed her honky-tonk chops performing in San Francisco BART stations, Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival 2007, beachtowns in SoCal to prisons in Belgium. Many talented SF Bay Area musicians contributed to this debut recording such as members from The Whoreshoes, The Brother Comatose, Culhann's Hounds, The Lariats, Cheetahs on the Moon, and Middle Maki.

It Lifted Me Up

I've been listening to those songs a lot for the past 10 days, and I have not gotten tired of them at all. That's saying a lot. To have captured the spirit of traditional dance music in originals to that degree is, to my knowledge, a rare accomplishment. And that's not even to mention Emily's voice, which I also adore.Plus, the fiddling and harmony vocals of Anna Levitt have so much soul and drive. The whole album really lifted me up.

Original, Lyrical, Foot-Stompin!

We love love love this album! When I say we, I include my wife and I, who like to dance to the tracks (especially the Cajun-influenced tracks), but also our kids, who are six and eight. True, our kids have been raised on a steady diet of bluegrass and Americana, but finding generational cross-over appeal is still rare. Emily has a beautiful and versatile voice that reminds me of Iris Dement and June Carter, and her songs are lyrical and heartfelt. The rest of the band is tight, with especially great work on the fiddle and accordian... Great album!
