Five wonder-filled songs that explore sex and emptiness, hope and love with an open heart and fresh, quirky sound that is equally as catchy and as it is genuine. With an impressive resume in theatre and television, Nebraska-born actress and singer/songwriter Emily Kinney begins to tell stories from her very own notebook in her debut EP, Blue Toothbrush.
Emily was born in Small-town Nebraska and first took to music and the stage at age seven, singing at county fairs and in local talent shows. She soon fell in love with telling stories and exploring human emotion.
As soon as she could, Emily ran to New York City to pursue a professional acting career all the while developing her writing skills by keeping notes on her new life in the big city.
It didn't take Emily long to start snagging roles in Off-Broadway plays and popular television shows such as 'The Good Wife,' and Law and Order: Criminal Intent." Emily made her Broadway musical debut as Anna in the Tony Award Winning musical Spring Awakening and can most recently can be seen as 'Emily' in the second season of 'The Big C' on Showtime.
In between exciting acting gigs and adjusting to New York City life, Emily continued to fill notebooks with poems and short stories based on her own experiences. While on The First National Tour of August: Osage County, with time in hotel rooms to herself, and with the encouragement of her friend and collaborator Conrad Korsch, Emily began putting her words to melodies. Blue Toothbrush includes songs taken from words written during that exciting time of self-discovery in hotel rooms, on stages, and touring the country.
Filled with care and wonder, Emily hopes the songs on Blue Toothbrush will resonate with friends, family, fans, and new listeners in a way that is fun, sweet, and relatable, but most importantly, always honest.
