Album Notes

“Her singing and her writing continue to amaze and astound me! There’s a lot to like
about this record!”
– Jeff Pevar (CPR, David Crosby, Graham Nash, Rickie Lee Jones, Ray Charles)

Emily Yanek’s style is unique and refreshing – an updated take on the classic
singer-songwriters of the 1970s. She sites artists like Jackson Browne, Carole King, Dan
Fogelberg, and Elton John as main influences. Her piano-driven songs are filled with
great hooks and insightful lyrics.

Watching the Highway overflows with struggle and promise. From the energetic burst of
the first track “Please, Please (C’mon, C’mon),” she weaves back and forth between
soulful ballads and upbeat rockers in this solid debut effort. The listener goes on a
twelve-song ride, ending with the song, “Nobody Knows,” an intimate reflection on
loneliness.

After meeting her musical hero, Jackson Browne, at one of his shows, she became inspired
to make a career out of music – and the songs for this record poured out of her! With help
in the recording studio from veteran guitarist Jeff Pevar, her vision for Watching the Highway
began to take shape.
