What started as a simple songwriting deal over a year ago has now flourished into a group of four guys living out their dreams through a band called Emitter.
Formed in the spring of 2000 by lead singer Jason James, Emitter came together with the purpose of just showcasing great songwriting. James's dream began when he was offered a songwriting deal from a Nashville, TN independent music publisher. After hearing his style and talent, two independent producers, Reid Waltz and Jef Curtiss of blueWookie Productions, decided to take James and help create a new sound to showcase that talent.
In no time, James began the process of recording an album under a production deal with blueWookie. In search of making it a group effort, James called old friend and bass player Dave Schoon. Schoon who was playing in another band at the time, quickly left his home in Chicago to join James. After several weeks of recording, Schoon contacted former band mate guitarist Steve Van Der Griend. Soon the trio had recorded their debut album, Emitter.
It wasn't long after the completion of their self-titled debut, the newly formed Emitter relocated to their native Chicagoland. After a short break, the trio began in search of a drummer to envelope what they had completed in the studio. After several tryouts, Schoon and Van Der Griend turned to hard hitting local drummer Chris Hagen who had already proven his talents playing on the 2001 Warp Tour. Hagen completed the sound they had developed in the studio while bringing years of experience with an unbelievable amount of talent to the Emitter line up. It was time for Emitter to lunge themselves quickly onto the stage, performing songs from their debut release for the first time.
And they have done so with a drive and determination that has established them as one of Chicago's finest original bands. Their live performance has gained them a strong diverse following and has allowed them to reach into regional markets by playing shows outside of their hometown as well as recieving local radio airplay. From college based venues to coffee houses to top Chicago clubs including House of Blues, Emitter makes their presence known with an exciting energy packed live performance that captivates their audience and draws attention to their well produced and well written self-titled CD.
The band's goal for the future is to seal their relationship with a record label that believes in their music and shows it with a record deal. And with their talent for songwriting and musicianship, as well as their
determination, that goal is not too far off in the future.
