Album Notes

There may be some who wonder what we mean when we say this project is "by the book." Since hymns have been around for a very long time, there are quite a few books which contain different arrangements of these songs. What we mean when we say "by the book" is that the songs we recorded for this album were not arranged by the members of the quartet, (as almost all of the music in our other projects has been). Instead, we went by the arrangements we found in two specific books. The hymnals we used were The Seventh-day Adventist Hymnal, Ninth Printing, 1996 by the Review and Herald Publishing Association, and Modern Quartets for Men. For those of you who are intimately familiar with these arrangements (church pianists, organists, fellow quartetters and worship leaders), you may notice that there are a few notes here and there that are almost imperceptibly shy of the arrangements cited. Your ears are not deceiving you. We admittedly strayed in those small instances for the sake of keeping the harmony in a chord that was originally arranged with more unison than we could stand. We pray that you will find it in your hearts to forgive us for those moments of weakness. We are only human. We wish you only the greatest blessings from this, our first endeavor at recording music that is both beautiful and deeply moving in its most basic form. We pray that you will rediscover, as we did, that there is a reason why these sacred songs have stood the test of time.
