"I Don't Think This Is Gonna Fly" is a super-fast, and super-catchy pop punk record. However, it is far from typical. It has some dark stuff and some heavy stuff on it too. The album title and most of the songs are designed to express the gradual falling of rock music in Canada. It’s a little disheartening, I know. Some of the songs describe from the inside what it’s like to be part of something that’s really doomed to fail. It’s really something any touring band lives with every day. The thought of knowing that “this isn’t going to fly” but jumping off the cliff anyways. Like just going for it, getting in your van and crossing the country playing music for peanuts. The other songs on the record have to do with current events in our lives right now. Very meaningful ones at that. There is a song on the record about one of my best friends skipping town and leaving everyone behind unannounced. Super sad days for me. Then there is a song about a different best friend moving back to town and how it relates to my life. Kind of a double meaning thing going on in there. It also reflects on peoples negative vision on our hometown of Thunder Bay. We quickly put an end to that in this tune.
The recording and mixing was done locally at Dining Room Studios, We had it mastered at Rain City Recorders in Vancouver, BC (they have mastered one of our favourite records, and many bigger Canadian artists of our same genre). The photography was done locally by Mike Pianka -- probably one of the best if not the best photographers in the city.
The band is in consensus that this is the best work any of us have been part of. We’re all very proud of it. It started out to us as a vision to place ourselves at a higher calibre of band. We figured putting out the best album we could, would showcase what we are capable of. Once the mastered songs came back from Vancouver and we all had a listen, we found that we created something even better than we expected. It actually blew our minds how awesome the record turned out. My favourite track is entitled “Homesick Hearts” -- but that’s just mine. Everyone in the band has a different favourite track, I take that as a good sign that different people will dig this album.
