Project: Think Different and sister company EmPOWERment Records have gathered artist contributions for a full-length, multi-genre CD compilation that empowers, inspires, and mobilizes action for social change. The EmPOWERment CD engages audiences through a cohesive album showcasing diverse music and the talent of both young, local artists as well as regionally and nationally recognized artists. Our goal is to amplify artists who are using their voices to promote socially conscious and empowering messages, and to create a high quality, sellable recording that demonstrates that these kinds of messages can compete in today’s mainstream, commercial market.
The EmPOWERment CD echoes Project: Think Different’s mission to create a renaissance in popular culture, and gives voice to artists who believe in their ability to inspire change. Messages created by these artists are the freedom songs and movement music of our generation. They take a critical look at current pop culture and suggest alternative values and priorities.
Artist performances include Boston Music Award nominee Roger Miller of Mission of Burma, African-inspired soul artists and Boston Music Award nominee Soulfege featuring reggae artist Bounty Killer, spoken word artists Afrodzak, Iyeoka Okawa and sixteen year-old Sofia Snow, Emcees Lyrical, Shuman, Bio, and Mingo, songstresses Melissa Li, Lauren Coen and Lauren Flaherty, humorous song styles from Billionaires for Bush, and various instrumental landscapes care of Kedaar Kumar and Media Friend.
