Amazingly simple AND catchy!
author: Stylo
I stumbled over Emptyself on myspace (nice invention that, by the way) and did hike to CD Baby to get a hardcopy of this album. The recordings are relatively simple designed, but awesome none the less. Though, sometimes I missed the point where a song gets to that "explosion" kind of thing (some of the songs do indeed have the potential to rise above the pure acoustic level), I really enjoyed this cd, mostly because of the sometimes more or less hidden power of Emtyself's vocals. His timbre reminds of bands like Perfect Circle, but carries a deeper sense of emotion through the songs in my eyes. Great cd to relax or sort ones thoughts. I would dearly like to hear what happened if Emtyself's mastermind throws in with a band... Hopefully another cd will follow soon!

Fucking Genius!
author: Matt
Those Cire fans out there already know the genius of this artist. So, how can I explain this album?? Look at the title of this review and that about sums it up.
The album is more electronic and drum based, rather than guitar based. But that is not to say that Eric’s guitar genius is lacking, how can you suppress a guitar talent such as EJ. As usual, the lyrics are very intelligent with a confident delivery.
If you’re a fan of top quality music that delivers pure emotion, you have to own this release. Please visit www.emptyself.com and read about his current challenges in life...I know I for one am really hoping to hear more from this amazing talent, in either Cire or emptyself.
Best wishes Eric!

Masterpiece
author: Pascal
Eric Johanson (the man behind Emptyself) is a producer and I think this explains in part why Emptysef sounds so unique. Producers often come up with something special when they write music. And the result with Emptyself is simply amazing. This album is more experimental than the EP released in 2004 but contains 4 of the 5 EP songs that were more accoustic guitar-oriented (and the 5th is among the bonus mp3 on the CD). These songs, along with a few others still build the core of the album to me but they are now surrounded by more electronic/experimental tracks that complete the totally tripping listening experience.
This album is a true masterpiece. It is beautiful, deep and touching. "The Way To Crash" (track 10) made me cry the first time I heard it on the EP, which happened to me only once before.
Thanks Mr. Johanson!
