Album Notes

Brothers Rob and Russ Giffen are Everything Must Go. UNFOLD is their first CD, released in 1995. Created with synthesizers and other electronics, the two pieces comprising it share cyclical, hypnotic structures produced by delay effects of continually varying lengths. As the compositions evolve, mantra-like sound-forms emerge. Orchestrations appear, intertwine and dissolve, overlapping each other, cross-fading and transmuting themselves.

Since its release, UNFOLD has received reviews that include these comments:

“As the walls begin to peel [. . .] an inverse reality takes hold [. . .] . Extremely enjoyable [. . .] .” — Greg Weeks, The Big Takeover

“A swirling repetition of sounds that slowly evolves from a soothing lull into a state of alarm.” — Chris W. Becker, Factsheet 5

“‘EON’ morphs and evolves, passing through many phases from dense chaos to delicate interludes, and back again. ‘ION’ also meanders over different sonic regions, but is softer overall and more symphonic. Both tracks are well-composed and very interestingly executed [. . .] .” — David J Opdyke, SpiderBytes

“Beautiful harmonic drones and ambient electronic washes that metamorphosize right in your ears.” — Todd Zachritz, Godsend Online

“An electronic Mariana Trench [. . .] . Time should posit the superb blossoming of UNFOLD as an innovative and seminal work.” — Darren Bergstein, i/e
