Album Notes

The Enrichment Center is an arts-based alternative day program serving adults with disabilities since 1995, providing instruction and performing opportunities in dance, drama, art, and poetry, as well as life skills training and vocational services. In 1997, the music program as well as the Enrichment Center Percussion Ensemble were founded by composer Aaron Bachelder. The members of the ECPE, having little or no prior musical experience, were and are selected from the student body of the Enrichment Center after evaluation of talent and (especially) interest. Mr. Bachelder composes the majority of the groups music, drawing on percussion ensemble tradition and the chamber tradition in general, folk and country music, popular and rock music, as well as the musics of many other cultures.

Their previous work has been well received critically; Eugene Chadbourne, writing for the All-Music Guide, described it as "...inspired.", while New Music Box included it among "...works for acoustic instruments that might as well be for electronics, the use of the instruments is so sonically interesting." For "Three Pieces" the group has added electronics and electric guitar to its sonic palette; this, in combination with member Marcie Haley's increasing interest in the drumkit, has pushed the group's work into post-rock territory.
