Album Notes

The artwork for Mark Erellis’s 5th album, Hope And Other Casualties, pays homage to Dylan’s The Times They Are A-Changin’. And while that makes a bold statement about the disc, it’s one that the songwriter carries off throughout the albums 11 tracks.

Ever since his debut at 24 years old, Mark Erelli has exhibited an uncommon musical maturity. In a few short years, he’s got four albums to his name, over 700 concerts under his best, and multiple awards. During a time when most young artists are still searching for their own voices, he has quietly build one to the most impressive and varied reputations in modern roots music. On his latest album, Hope and Other Casualties he ups the ante, with a brave and searingly honest tour de force, cementing himself as one of the best young male singer/songwriters on the scene today. Hope and Other Casualties is an unapologetic and timeless collection of deeply personal and affecting songs, effortlessly moving from songs of love, politics, family, resignation, and redemption. Infused with heartfelt song-craft, invigorating tempos, and arresting melodies Erelli has crafted a near-perfect and career defining album.

Wonderful and very personal stories.
author: Wendy
A lovely collection of wonderful and very personal stories giving an insight of American life to this particular Engish woman. I learned of the album from listening to Bob Harris on BBC Radio 2 here in the UK. Keep up the connection Mark.

Mark's BEST yet!
author: Cathie
I believe this album is the best yet for Mark. All the songs are very personal and heart-felt and the tunes are wonderful. It is the best thing I've heard since Neil Young's "Prairie Wind."

Mark at his best!
author: Greg Pool (Tree House Concerts)
This album really secures Mark's place as a premier songwriter and performer. Many of these songs were available acoustically in his MP3 Archive, but on this album the instrumentation that co-producer Lorne Entress brings is novel and engaging. If you're getting this album for the rarity, The Only Way, you'll definitley get hooked one song in with Here & Now. Then sit back with headphones on and pick out the voices of Lori McKenna, Kris Delmhorst, Jeffrey Foucault, and Peter Mulvey. Nice friends to have!
