Album Notes

"One of the most inventive composers around ... a musical equivalent to Chris Morris" - BBC Radio 3, Mixing It

"Not so much a one-man band as a one man movement" - The Wire Magazine

The music of Ergo Phizmiz takes human culture, mashing and manipulating it into new shapes and forms. It has references to hip-hop, world, lo-fi, ambient, plunderphonics, traditional dance music, Eastern-European, Gamelan, and cartoon music, though never settling in any one area and always jumping and mixing between genres until genre isn't an issue anymore.

A singularly prolific artist, Ergo has created over 300 hours of audio and video, including projects for the Tate Modern, the Royal Festival Hall, the Dutch Academy of Fine Art, Cologne Kulturbunker, Arts Council England, Geneva School of Art, Cherbourg-Octeville College of Music & Atagatomusi-k, Resonance FM, Ubuweb, WFMU, Sonic Arts Network, and BBC Radio 3. This work spans live performance, installation, radio-art, video-art, residencies, and interactive music, sometimes working alone and sometimes in collaboration, with artists including People Like Us, Safety Scissors, Irene Moon, Martha Moopette, Blank Beats, Scanner, The The, Luke Fowler, Xper Xr, Alex Nielsen and Man From Uranus. He has released music with labels including Sonore, Mukow, Sonic Arts Network, ~Scape, Soleilmoon, The Wire, LMC, Egotwister, Match My Foot and Womb Records.

Ergo currently mixes and presents a weekly radio show 'Phuj Phactory' on New York radio station WFMU. Listen online at: www.wfmu.org/playlists/ER.

He lives in Southern England with two midgets and a Bridget.

REVIEWS of NOSE POINTS IN DIFFERENT DIRECTIONS:

"A marvel of sonic experimentation ... Ergo is an inventive mind" - Comfortcomes.com

"Ergo's not a guy to give you a drum loop to chew on for fifteen minutes like dry wood - he'll flavour it with world spices, set it on fire, and shoot it to the stars." - MusicOMH.com

"A berserk electronic and plunderphonic whizzkid" - Rough Trade

"Unnerving, thought provoking, and inspiring, to digest what Ergo has accomplished you need to sharpen your senses and prepare for mental stimulation .... the road ahead is long and hard, but what will be waiting for Ergo at the end is as unpredictable as the music that will get him there." - God Is In the TV Zine

"Hear what this chap has been recording for the last 5 years & wonder why you still buy Squarepusher records" - Norman Records, Album of the Week
