Album Notes

Rahab Inc, an urban music production company based outside Washington, DC, announces the release of Eric Campbell's Drums & Congas Vol. 1. This Go-Go/Hip Hop CD seeks to extend the boundaries of Go Go music. With hi energy hip hop flows over danceable Go Go tracks, Rahab believes that it has created a CD with the potential to achieve the mainstream success that has thus far eluded most Go Go releases. According to producer/songwriter Eric Campbell, “Go Go music is simply incredible but the world doesn't even know what it's missing. Hopefully now, they'll pay attention.”

Eric Campbell created the tracks for all 10 songs on the CD. This included creating the complex percussions which create the unique Go-Go sounds. “Drums are my first instrument. I've played them since I was six years old. I think that's the main reason why I like Go-Go so much” In addition to producing, Eric also wrote and performed most of the songs on the CD. Guest appearances are made by Restine Jackson, Nicole Jamison (who sings as part of Restine's background ensemble, Grace), DC-based rap artist Enyaphace, and local Go-Go group God's Blend.

“Even though it's an all Go Go project, there's still something for everybody on this CD” say Eric. “'Keep On Pressin' (feat. Nicole Jamison and Restine Jackson) is perfect for R&B mainstream radio. “We're shipping 'I'm a Soldier' and 'Blast Off' to the clubs and mix DJs. We even have a song for Gospel Radio ('Tak'm to Church' featuring God's Blend).

The CD will be shipped to retailers throughout the DC metropolitan region. It will also be available through internet retailers and Rahab's own website (www.rahab.com). Eric Campbell says “I have high expectations for this project. I think it's something the streets have been waiting for. I'm thankful for the opportunity to give it to them”.

Keep it Going
author: Chike Nwabukwu
This CD is more for those who grew up on Go-Go music, those from the D.C. metropolitan. The sounds are distinctly Go-Go and at times lack range. But that is the history of the genre. What makes this CD special is that it's original and creative. Many probably don't understand the significance of it's originality because they are not from the D.C. area. But speaking in an authentic voice, from the underground of D.C.'s music and cultural landscape, definitely deserves attention and applause! I like "I'm a soldier" and can relate to the story in many ways. Survival is the key. Also, "Keep Pressing", "Take 'em to Church", and the instrumental (#8) take me back to those good 'ol Go-Go days, yet they are coming with a positive vibe and staying true to it's percussion essence. It's a good buy for Go-Go lovers, but even more of a good start for the renaissaince of Go-Go culture. This is what Go-Go needs to be: original, creative, and authentic. I believe this CD will spark an evolution in Go-Go consciousness. So, whoever reads this, whatever you take from it, whenever you choose to do something about it, just keep it going. D.C. Volume 1 is just the first notch. How loud is it going to get?
