Album Notes

There seem to be two types of people, those that live in their well-defined comfort zone, and those that do everything in their power to never set foot in that restrictive place. I definitely fall into the latter category, and I’m not sure why. I think it is, perhaps, a consequence of this brain in my head observing the human condition and knowing that we often seem to be headed in the wrong direction so, ergo, the status quo can’t be the best bet.

Yet I’ve found over the years that enlightenment is an inside-out phenomenon, i.e., you can guide and be guided, but change has to come from the inside out. So as I continue on my own journey and have the occasional insight I try to infuse some of that conceptual framework into my music.

But nobody is going to listen to a CD that uses terms like “conceptual framework” (and, besides, that’s hard to rhyme : ). So the challenge that I happily embrace is to take important and sometimes heavily veiled knowledge, distill from it its essence, and present it in song and word (I write novels, too).

“Word Play” is my latest effort. It took nearly two years to produce this CD, not because it took that long to write the material, but because my life outside the comfort zone creates an interesting “dynamic” that precludes a lot of personal time for projects like this one that are, in fact, closest to my heart.

Weird, maybe I should do something about that...

Peace,

Eric
