Album Notes

Eric Hester, performs original alternative acoustic music with an upbeat attitude and an offbeat edge.

Eric, a New Mexico native, writes songs on a variety of topics, always with a slightly serious, slightly humorous take on the situation.

Folk Festival organizer Kurt Depner says, "I'm so excited to have Eric headlining this year...

his consistently engaging song writing never ceases to amaze and delight." In fact, Eric's live performances are so captivating that the highly esteemed Portland Songwriters Association not only awarded him their Songwriter of the Year but also named him Best Performer.

Eric has recently released his first solo CD,RED, produced by Northwest song wizard Craig Carothers.

RED features a veritable "Who's Who" of the Northwest's finest musicians (including Tim Ellis, Phil Baker, and Joe Heinemann).

This collection of originals is a strong representation of Eric Hester's unique take on emotional songwriting.

From the whimsical look at being single (Find a Girl), to the stark realities of capital punishment (Last Call), to his downright hilarious take on an ex-lover (Clarissa), RED captures Eric's quirky view of reality.

Currently receiving airplay on radio stations across the nation, Eric is continuing his never ending tour of small clubs and independent book and record stores across the country.

While RED is Hester's first solo endeavor, this former ball bearing salesman is no stranger to the world of radio and record stores.

During the last half of the 80's and continuing into the 90's, Eric was the principal songwriter, guitarist and lead vocalist for the Southwest-based alternative band The Young Professionals.

Their aggressive style of chain saw pop, tight harmonies and energetic performances helped them become a CMJ staple.

Eric later became one-half of the nationally acclaimed male acoustic duo The Panhandlers.

Hester now calls Madison, Wisconsin home, where he teaches a Craft of Songwriting class and his traveling Music Business Seminar "How to get a Record Deal and other useful Music Business tips" for the University of Wisconsin.

"I've seen this guy play live before, and it's an amazing sight.

He takes risks, has immaculate taste...and never fails to affect his audience." Mark Earnest, music critic - Reno, Nevada With praise like this and the release of his CD, RED, Eric Hester is ready to introduce his brand of lively folk music to a larger audience on his 2000 tour.

His engaging and charismatic performances, showcasing his solo guitar and unique voice, are sure to please even the most jaded fans.

A joy to listen to

Eric Hester brings a wide range of emotions to his music. You'll laugh, you'll cry — often in the same song — and you'll want to listen over and over again. Hester says things in his music that all musicians want to say, but he does it better. His style is a wonderful change from the plastic pop idols being cranked out by the big labels. If you get a chance to see him perform live, go. His music strikes the soul even better in person.

Excellent music, lyrics, and more passion than most performers I've seen lately.

I bought this CD the first time I saw Eric Hester perform. It's incredible!... The lyrics and music and passion Eric puts into his songs made me laugh out loud, and 5 minutes later, moved me to tears. His range and depth is unbelievable and he sings with an open honesty that draws you into the songs....no "sideline" listening with this music. I've shared this CD with friends and family, who are all "REDheads" now, and we're anxiously awaiting the next release.
