Eric Leyton is a singer-songwriter born in Cincinnati, Ohio. Living in a military family, Eric moved all over the states from Texas to Nebraska to South Carolina, and spent four years in England.
He began to sing at a very early age, and soon after he began to write poems and short stories. Eric listened to his dad’s records as a boy, including Paul Simon, James Taylor, Gordon Lightfoot, and Elvis Presley. Seeking out other music, he fell in love with the masters of Motown and other soul greats like Otis Redding, Sam Cooke, and Sam and Dave.
While Eric was attending the Cincinnati School for Creative and Performing Arts at the age the age of 18, he started to put his passion for melodies and words together, picking up some guitar and writing his first songs. He had found his calling. Throwing his guitar in the back of his beat up car, he headed to the mountains of western North Carolina where he began to get into John Prine, Jim Croce, and others. He worked on his song writing for a year before coming back to Cincinnati.
Eric started to play acoustic covers for a living and attended a broadcasting school, landing a job reporting traffic on nine major radio stations in Cincinnati.
Waiting for the Sun is his second album, influenced by newer songwriters like Jack Johnson, Amos Lee, and Martin Sexton. Recorded at Electric Toad Studios with the wonderful musician Phil Hipskind, his sophomore effort has flavors of Folk, Soul, Latin, and Blues.
