notes

"Eric McFadden growls with a dusty cadence as his fingers dance across the guitar strings with an ease that betrays a pact with the devil."
-SF Weekly

Eric McFadden (Acoustic/Electric Guitar, Mandolin, Vocals) is widely recognized by both fans and critics as a tremendously talented guitarist with an outstanding stage presence and uncanny live performance. With his mastery of several musical genres and his unique ability to effectively fuse different styles together, Eric is a guitar virtuoso.

He is far from your typical musician and this is no secret. In 1998 he won "Best Guitarist" in the New Mexico Weekly Readers Poll, and in 2000, Bay Area's Zero Magazine awarded him the "Best Guitarist" as well.

Born in New York and raised in New Mexico, McFadden moved to San Francisco with his band "Liar" in 1994. The band had a tremendous impact on the San Francisco music scene, and won the SF Weekly's Wammies Award for "Best Rock Band" in 1997, and BAM Magazine's California Music Award for "Best Americana /Roots Band" in 1998.

Eric's eclectic musical abilities also allow him to play in several different style bands throughout the city night after night. His time is split between the flamenco-fueled carnival noir sounds of "The Eric McFadden Experience," the hard-edged blues / roots sound of, "The Faraway Brothers," and "Alien Lovestock," a funk laced, Latin tinged, desert rock band.

Eric has also toured the entire U.S. and part of Europe showcasing his talents as a singer/songwriter. His solo acoustic show allows fans to simply appreciate his incredible songwriting and musicianship.

In 2000, McFadden was honored when he was asked by outer-galactic funk-master George Clinton to join the Parliament/Funkadelic Mothership and he continues to tour the U.S. and Europe with the band as the mandolin/guitar player. In early 2000 McFadden teamed up with fellow P-Funkster Ronkat Spearman and Kevin Carnes to form the powerhouse funk / rock trio known as "IZM."

McFadden has also collaborated with several other top-notch musicians both on stage and in the studio throughout the U.S. and Europe. Some of these artists include Dave Schools (Widespread Panic), Otteil Burbridge (Allman Brothers) , Jonny Lang, Aquarium Rescue Unit, The Old 97's, Merl Saunders, John Parish (PJ Harvey), and Steve Smith (Journey / vital information).

His most recent band "The Eric McFadden Trio" features James Whiton on upright bass, and Jeff "The Commander" Anthony on drums. The band is currently working on an album that should be out by summer 2003.

  • Intense and so sexy
    author: Kristen

Wow - I love the growling voice and the way he massages those strings on the slow songs. Who knew "Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite" could sound so alive, so real, and so sexy - the Beatles certainly couldn't pull that off. Not a song on this CD disappoints and I could not be happier or more enchanted. Eric is an artist I would relish seeing in person - come to Tampa!

  • beautiful, passionate, haunting, brilliant.

Showin' that guitar who's boss, injecting his acoustic blues with an devilish pang that will set them coyotes howlin', fogging up the windshield of mainstream blues with his rattling, growly bass voice, this kindred spirit to Tom Waits and Nick Cave is spittin' some smoky, dark, americana gypsy-blues for the hopeless and undecided. However gloomy and lead-heavy his style can be, this man knows how to pick it up with a carnival twist, cousin to a danse macabre. This is one artist with an unflinching command of his muse; highly recommended.

  • It gets better
    author: David

You like this CD? Go see him live. Its 10x better! The dankest, dingiest bar in San Francisco will do just fine, but the rare cases where he heads to New Mexico are yet a step above that.

  • This is one artist with an unflinching command of his muse.
