"Singer-songwriter Eric Ode's clever lyrics, gentle wit and compassion for the uncertainties in a kids' life are a winning combination." - Parents' Choice Foundation
"Eric Ode’s When You Smile is a fourteen song feel-good collection of upbeat and positive kidz-view observations that are clever, never condescend and most of all, spike the fun-meter and rock with the best. I think this is my favorite Eric Ode album thus far…until the next one."
- John Wood, Kidzmusic.com
"Songwriter/poet Eric Ode has assembled another winner—a collection of 10 original songs, a traditional tune, and three poems. Ode's sense of humor is on display with songs such as "Poor Planet Pluto" (an upbeat rock tune about Pluto's demotion), "Legendary Larry" (an easy listening number about an average guy), "This Song Has No Elephants" (a Latino-flavored piece listing many animals, but no elephants), and "Worms" (a bluesy celebration of worms). Ode collaborates with Bill Shontz on "When You Smile," a song about friendship that features Shontz on vocals and flute. Closing the recording is an upbeat, cleverly arranged version of the traditional "Froggy Went A-Courtin'" Ode's poems include "The Soggy Sneaker Parade" (complete with sound effects), "I Could Have Been the Farmer" (about the disappointments of being in the school play), and "Loretta Lost a Tooth at Lunch." The songs beg for listeners to sing along. A welcome addition to Ode's body of work." - School Library Journal, 2008
