The Aristocrat

by Eric Schwartz

A sonically high, thematically low collection of mostly adult comedic works as befits a writer with too much time on his hands. If you like your humor and your music in equal doses in one serving, check it out.

The Aristocrat is great!
Eric Schwartz is a comedic genius and a wonderful and talented musician! I have all of his albums. I purchased 12 copies of the "Aristocrat" and gave them out to my friends. They all loved it!
I highly recommend that you purchase it, and all of Eric's other CD's.

Chock full of Irony
A style parody of 70's-style adult contemporary and country (along with some blues and gospel for good measure), this album sees a shift in Eric's music from being stories punctuated by jokes to being fully-formed comedic situations. I found Telltale Kitchen hilarious, even though it really has no punchline (file this under, "it's funny because it's true"). In Codependent Sonata and That Being Said, the punchlines lay in connecting the dots, if not also perhaps a tiny bit of potential recognition (even if it's in the "there by for grace go I" sense.) Male Pattern Baldness had me laughing out loud simply because it started off by insisting there's nothing funny about it. The music is brilliantly produced, and the lyrics are full to bursting with irony. Most of this album is "Not Safe For Work." Or kids. Or pets. A guilty pleasure. Highly recommended.

Absolutely Brilliant
Eric Schwartz is a brilliant composer and amazing performer. His musical skill and quick wit make every song something you can listen to a hundred times. And, as an aside, the artwork on this CD is absolutely brilliant. If you buy this CD, you'll want to frame the packaging . . .

Excellent!
If you are already an ES fan you will probably buy this CD anyway, but if you are on the fence I highly recommend it.
For those who are finding Eric for the first time, congratulations! Eric is one of my favorite working songwriters, and I am a writer myself! He has a great way of turning a phrase on its' head, and is endlessly clever in his ideas. If you are offended by profanity or irreverence toward sacred cows, you may wish to sample extensively before buying. But for those of us who prize insights into the deep well of human foibles, Eric is your man. He has a strong voice and is a great instrumentalist. As with many of his CDs, I laughed out loud many times. Makes me happy to be alive! Please consider going to see him live. It's awesome!
