notes
Originally from Pennsylvania where he was first known for his energetic guest appearances with many of the area's finest performers, Eric's early musical influences inspired him to pick up his first Fender Stratocaster at the age of nine.
There was no looking back.......
Eric's passion for the Blues and natural command of the scene enabled him to eventually share the stage with nationally known artists including Bob Margolin, Debbie Davies, James Armstrong, Steve Guyger, Kenny Neal, Chris Beard, Tommy Castro, Joe Kubek, Bnois King, Solomon Burke, Ronnie Baker Brooks and Hubert Sumlin.
In 2004, Eric joined John Mayall and The Bluesbreakers on their Scandinavian Tour as the "youngest person ever on stage with the Bluesbreakers". Eric left a lasting impression on Mayall who later invited Eric to join him in the studio during the "Road Dogs" sessions. Eric's lead guitar work is featured on the track "Chaos in the Neighborhood".
With a feeling and natural ability that just can't be explained for someone so young, Eric delivers a Freddy-BB-Albert King influenced performance with an intensity and skill that never fails to amaze anyone who sees him. With a style at times reminiscent of an early-Clapton, Eric combines a variety of influences while reminding everyone the real thing comes from the heart and soul.
The Eric Steckel Band's CD, A Few Degrees Warmer, was recorded LIVE in April 2002 when Eric was just 11 years old.
Although the ESB would later release "High Action" in 2004 and "Havana" in 2006, both of which are available through CD Baby, "A Few Degrees" continues to be a Blues Guitar fan favorite around the world.

UNBELIEVABLE!!!
author: paul hI first heard this at a bar I frequent and was impressed enough I got on line and ordered ALL his cds the next day. Then when I saw a picture of him and realized how young he is, I was just dumbfounded. Joe bonamassa, Aynsley Lister, George Castiglia, and now Eric Steckel; the electric blues is truley in good hands for a long time to come! On top of his playing ability he is also WRITING HIS OWN SONGS at 15! Hey Eric, how about playing a gig in Milwaukee? If you havn't already sent promo copies to radio station WMSE 91.7 in Milwaukee do so today. They are the only station in is city that plays this type of music. Good luck and keep playin'!
highspeed guitar quality
author: Plattenkiste a German Recordshop...unbelivable young boy. i wish i will do the same in my second life. how old are your kids? listen to that amazing CD.
- author: W.V.Griffin
I heard Eric on New Years Eve on the radio ,when i first heard him playing The Sky Is Crying .Me and my brother were both guessing ,i thought the guitar was many Melvin Taylor and then we heard him sing .Now i couldn't wait for song to end to see who it was ,it was followed by another song .My brother then called the station and we couldn't believe,11 years old ! When i got home ,i bought Havana from Napster and next i ordered A Few Degrees Warmer from CD Baby. They both are smokin' hot ,Kenny Wayne and Johnny Lang can't touch him !! It's like SRV and Jimmy reborn, keep on rockin' and would love for you to come to Raliegh N.C. sometime.Hey my aunt and uncle use to live in Allentown PA. also. Next how about a live DVD ? Thanks ,W.V.Griffin
nobody else this good at 11 years old
author: BobWhat more can be said, after seeing Eric Live in November 2006 i am mesmerized by his talent and natural abilties for someone 15 years old. I don't know if Hendrix or Stevie were this good at 15 years old but Eric will be just as big as Hendrix or Stevie Ray in time. Only time stands in the way from his true destiny, he's still a kid and this good, wait till he grows up a little and really shows us what he's got!
pretty cool axeman, and he's what freakin' 11!!!!
author: JimA bud of mine told me about this CD, and I was skeptical about an 11-year-old blues player. But, the kid is a great guitarist and he'll only get better with age. The vocals of a kid that age are a little squeaky, but whose voice, amongst us guys, wasn't. I hope he stays true to his convictions and continues to play the blues. Cool CD!!!
- author: Craig
Can't stop playing it. Eric puts a smile on everyone's face with his exceptional talent.
Excellent ! SVR reborn
author: Claude ProulxI love the CD. Very reminiscent of Stevie Ray Vaughn in the guitar playing. For a kid that age it's fascinating ! Keep it up !
AMAZING!!!
author: MarkHere is a review from The Netherlands. I saw Eric at a gig here in The Netherlands in a small bar. What i heard was AMAZING. This boy is a giant on his guitar. It hit me like nothing ever did to me. Eric i hope you come to The Netherlands again soon! This CD is realy something! Awesome! Greetings one of your biggest fans in The Netherlands..
freakin awsome
author: matthew lipscombthe cd is tight i try to catch on but i cant
- author: Phillip Kee
Eric Steckel is amazing for one so young. He has a genuine "feel" for the blues. Where does he go from here? It will be interesting to discover when his voice "breaks"!!! Your sevice was superb, re. delivery etc... Phillip Kee. Rørvig. Denmark.
Great CD!
author: RickyGreat CD for his first one. Buy High Action also! A star in the making!
I can't beleive your gone...
author: Alyssa-LeeI can't believe your gone eric! I miss you so much from Salisbury...You were always sooo good at you performancesbut after listening to your cd i am blown away. You are jsut amazing. I hope to see you in concert soon!!
The Boy Can Play!!!
author: Greg SerratoI was pleasantly surprised at the ability of this little guy and the quality of his live performance. It wouldn't be fair to compare his skill to any of the greats at this point, but if he keeps his head on straight, is given sound direction and continues to progress, he could easliy be one of the true blues guitar greats of our time. I truly enjoy listening to this cd and feel it was worth every penny. Eric, you're only as good as your rhythm section, so keep them on their toes and best of luck to you!

amazing
author: tom beudekerthis kid must be the reïncarnation of SRV. the spirit of Stevie never left, but with this kid all pieces for a superb bluesman are back on earth. Go on, kid, we love U
WOW!
author: marioEric you have been blessed with the right kind of MOJO! Keep making people smile! You got a fan in Croatia!
SMOKIN'
author: BryanSimply amazing. What incredible talent for such a youngster. As others have mentioned, his voice is a bit young sounding, but he IS young, so what do you expect? He'll get there. I think he'll be a great singer as well once his voice matures a bit. I'm happy that he's the lead singer though, because he'll only get better after starting at such a young age. Rather listen to him singing now than have another KWS episode (NOT enjoying his newest album!). But anyways, enough can't be said for this kids guitar playing. Makes the hairs on my body stand up. I purchased both of his CD's and am ROCKIN! Can't wait for more releases. Keep it up Eric, its refreshing to see another fine rockin blues player out there.
- author: O'l Blues Hippie of the 70's
You Got It young fella. I'll be listening to great blues well into my ripe ol' age now.
Take Care of Eric and he will last for long
author: Erik PetersenI saw Eric With John Mayall in Copenhagen. He had a humble attitude to the BLUES, the band and the audience. Take care of Eric, only by keeping the humblenes he will develop to something very big. Always remember - keep the feet on the ground.
Unique creativity and song writing, should still wait to sing
author: NielsI could not believe the quality of the songs Eric had written himself. This was the biggest revelation of this CD. Still a bit young to sing, but he will get there.
Unbelievable maturity on the guitar, wait for the voice
author: NielsI saw Eric on TV, googled my way to CD Baby and bought this CD. I was struck with awe, wonder, and an urge to boogie (doesn't happen often for a Danish guy). Eric's feeling for the blues is unique - if I can say anything short of perfect it would be that he is a bit young to sing the blues. An adult sounding guitar with a young man's voice doesn't quite click, but this CD is incredible.
- author: Stacy
I am blown away, can't really explain the feeling I get listening to Eric play. you are "Awesome" keep it up.
STUNNING!!!!!!!!!`
author: AKShey the next SRV or maybe HENDRIX is here, keep on rockin in blues,,,,

author: headroom-music.co.ukERIC has astounded the entire band, we have now set fire to all our guitars and are now taking up gardening as a hobby and leave the guitar stuff to the lad who has it all going on...... nice one kid
Great tone and feel
author: Wolf MailGreat tone and feel, you're on the right track Eric, will make a point to catch one of your gigs. All the best
Just a copy ( great )
author: Andre van WerkhovenHelemaal toppie!!!
what a talent !
author: gary doxthis kid is simply amazing and plays with the soul of SRV
What A Talent !
author: KeesI love this CD and his second CD. What a talent! Hope to hear more from him in the near future.
this cd is a must for every blueslover
author: Rob Bouman, the NetherlandsWhat a fantastic cd! Eric is a fabulous guitarplayer but of course his voice is of a eleven year old kid. Also his second cd is great. Now he is thirteen years old and last summer he toured with the great John Mayall trough Sweden, Denmark and Norway. Then you must be a supertalent. I have read that Eric will come to Europe in may and june 2005. I really hope that it is possible for him to give some performances in Holland. I will visit them all! I wish him all the best for the future.
Future guitar legend without a doubt!!
author: Kevin Walsh NH, USAWhat more can be said than I was blown away by the guitar work from beginning to the end, from an eleven year old it's almost hard to believe it. Excellent song selections and I like the blues style vocals he adds to the tunes. Yes a twelve years old voice but with an honest passion for what he is singing. J.Hendrix, E.Clapton, J.Page, BB,F,A.King, Walker, Steckel....all legends.
HE'S GOT IT
author: ANTHONY YATESHE'S GOT IT AND ONLY 11 YEARS YOUNG, WHAT MORE CAN I SAY. SUPER AWESOME GUITAR BLUES PLAYING.
Blues to make you sweat
author: Darren JackschThis album will go down in history as one of the most recognized of Blues greats. From the first to the last track you will find an artist who not only feels his work but breathes his music through his guitar. ‘A Few Degrees Warmer’ can be simply described as HOT!
Very Good
author: Kris MatthewsHi Eric This is a great CD, my email address is bluesboykrissy@hotmail.com this CD is flipping well good. I'm 12 and i play Guitar, i played with John Mayall at Notodden Blues Festival. But i mean this CD is great, i would love to get a copy, hope you email back, i would love to see you play sometime, apart from the only trouble is is that i live in England. Anyway, i think you are great, hope to keep in touch. from Kris
Very impressed
author: Daryl R. BrownThis CD just blew me away. I believe if Stevie Ray was here to listen, he would be grinning from ear to ear.
Thanks!!!
author: JasonI would like to thank Eric personally for ending my guitar career.
OK
author: Reggie Sears, Blues on BlueA Few Degrees Warmer is a good album by 11 year old(13 now)Eric Steckel. While I can't say his vocals are fully mature, for an 11 year old it sound's great. But it's his guitar playing that makes this album impressive. The album starts off w/a spirited rendition of StevieRay Vaughans "Rude Mood." Then Eric & the guys rip into a smoldering version of Jimi Hendrix's "Red House", a song that everybody has covered. While I can't say it was the best version I've heard, its really awesome. Next is a 5 minute version of Freddie King's "Hideaway." "Crossroads," the 4th track is a great version w/an excellent solo. Steckel's first origional "Jaywalking" is a great song w/a great Crybaby-wah-wah solo. "Where I Play My Blues" is his second origional w/great solos by Steckel, shows that even a kid can have the Blues.Although his singing isn't quite mature, it's excellent compared to what the normal 11 year old could even dream about. Next comes a great version of SRV's Lenny, which goes into a fiery version of "Hey Joe." "The Sky Is Crying" is next followed by Bad Dog Blues, his 3rd & final origional. He does the Thrill is Gone, in which he covers great, but does not live up to BB's version(But its hard to live up to BB.) "Steppin' Out" closes the album. The album is great even though Steckel's voice needs to mature. If it was an instrumental, you wouldnt even guess that he's 11.-REGGIE SEARS(WWW.REGGIESEARS.COM)

author: Matthias (Germany)thus I want to be able to play also. The e-guitar I bought straight.
Great blues from short guy. Wonderful!
author: Subas AudioEric put a new perspective on age and emotion. Where does this brother in blues come from actually? Played it for friends and workmates with same effect. We all smile because it touches us beyond ANY criticism. Air guitarists and amateurs out there; -This is a great way to start practicise yourselves. My wife who is a music teacher played this CD for here pupils to inspire them. She use to have students from three years and up playing the violin and they also have great skill when teacher, pupil and parents work together for a long time. How Eric got his genius is hard to tell but someone before me suggested reincarnation of SRV... Who knows? Most important is the inspiration and joy that he brings. The sky is maybe crying but at the ending of my day it's bringing a smile on listeners of all ages. Peace Hans

Amazing kid!
author: Gary KnessThere's no way you would realize you were listening to an 11 year old kid when you first (and every remaining time you) listen to him play. The only clue you ever get suggesting he's anything BUT an extremely accomplished blues guitarist, is when he sings! He's TRULY unbelievable!
Blown away!!!!!! 3 originals ? They were awesome!!!!
author: Kurt D. SmithThe CD just blew all my friends away! Where I Play My Blues, was incredible. Everyone wants to know more about ESB. The guitar work was unbelievable, clean, and crisp! We would love to know if ESB will be making any appearances in NE PA. Scranton and North, into NY (Binghamton Area). I can't put it in to words how much I love this CD! I can't get it out of my CD player. I've ordered ESB's latest High Action, and from what little I've heard, I'm sure I'll be every bit as happy as I am with A FEW DEGREES WARMER! The Blues has a great future with The Eric Steckel Band!!!

What were you doing at the age of eleven?
author: Arthur PattersonHe must of started playing at one year to be this good at 11. The dudes a NATURAL!!!
Awe Inspiring!
author: BradHow in the world can Eric sound so great at such a young age? For that matter, he and his band sound simply great for any age. Now I have to admit his vocals will benefit from maturation, but his playing has re-inspired me to get back to work on some good 'ol blues. What a talent.
This album got me back to listening to the blues
author: Mike PoirierI have a 12 year old grandson who has taken up the guitar. This album will be a gift for inspiration. The music is great. Looking forward to a studio album.
Blown away. Oh my God!!
author: JimI first heard Eric on live365 electricblues radio. I thought wow, this guy is good. Then he sang and I was like what "This guy is a kid and he plays that good, oh my God!". I then immediately went and found his website and heard samples of his other songs and bought the album and it hasn't left my cdplayer. This kid is amazing.

If this album was a instrumental there is no way you would beleive Eric's age.
author: Jerry ShumateWhen you play this CD you find yourself pondering things like "what year did Stevie Ray Vaughn leave us?". There is no way some of my friends would have beleived Eric's age if not for the vocals. This kid is awesome. This will give you something to look forward to, I can't wait to hear him play when he reaches 21. Eric is a MAJOR find.
WOW
author: KERRY DESMARAISWOW ERIC U R GOOD YOUR MUISC IS AS GOOD AS MEETING U BACKSTAGE

ESB - GOOD OLD FASHIONED BLUE COLLAR BLUES !
author: Al KessopThis album will take you back, way back to the days when people belted out RAW, Gutsy, Soulful, Dirty downhome blues. Haven't heard anything with this kind of energy in years. Clapton had it with John Mayall's bluesbreakers; Johnny Winter had it; Stevie Ray had it and now this awesome kid prodigy has it - EARTHSHATERRING SOUL !!!
The Perfect Blues
author: RobbiI'd never heard the blues so perfectly performed by such a young star. Listen to his own created songs, his kind of art to play the guitar in so many different scales, played with a feeling like the great superstars like eric clapton, Gary Moore and others. This CD is a must for all Blues-Fans.
You are unbelieveable, just great!!
author: KellyOur family went to see you play and the music and your skills are just wonderful, you left us tapping our feet the whole time, keep up the good work.

My mind is blown right outta my skull
author: Dave Seidner (UR)I saw Eric Steckel Band live this past Sunday. I'd never heard of him before and a friend asked me to go check out some great music. I went to this show, my jaw dropped to the floor. I bought the CD during set break. I came home and left my jaw on the floor of the club! It's still there! I listened to the CD a couple of times since then. It's flat out amazing! I'm gonna try to catch ESB this Saturday too. Amazing blues guitarist!
Great!! I am 63, my grandson(Ben Steckel) is 11 we both loved it.
author: Lynne Fendell/Ben SteckelGREAT!!!!!
Enjoyable and amazing
author: TomI was skeptical at first but find myself listening to this CD often. The vocal is naturally tinny but a few years will change that. The original material is quite credible, especially jaywalkin', and the skill level just blows me away.
LOOK OUT KENNY WAYNE & JONNY LANG; '' YOUR HISTORY''
author: terry sellersalbert & freddy king -stevie ray vaughn, jimi hendrix, & so many other great guitarists have left us. eric, you are making it alot more bearable to be left without them keep it up ! make another c.d. soon.
this cd rocks
author: lynne dettrathis is one of the best cd's i have ever heard.! good job, Eric
Eric Steckel rocks!!!!
author: RachelAs a friend of mine put it, Steckel is able to channel the blues. Many people can imitate this style of music, but few have the ability to send the music straight to the soul. A Few Degrees Warmer demonstrates Steckel's range and talent. Can't wait for the next album.
This CD is amazing / raw power
author: Bob FillerEric Steckel is an amazing talet. The CD never quits, but I only got to listen once. Someone in the office borrowed it and they lent it to someone and so on and so on. I hope I get it back, he was great
- author: dave westrop

Incredible & Fantastic
author: Douglas BernabéI wasn´t sure about buying the CD, I had never heard of Eric and as a coincidence I got to this page and heard the samples. I am a big rock, blues & jazz fan and also a bass player myself and when I heard the samples I knew I had to get this CD. When I finally got it, I was amazed. Eric is 100% the music from the CD. It doesn´t sound like a 12 yo guitar player. The sound is really clean and if you add the fact that it was recorded live, makes it more difficult. My favorites are "Lenny", "The thrill is gone", "Hideaway", "Stepping out", "Jaywalking" and very specially "When I play my blues" and "The sky is crying". It seems that Eric is no shy with the audience. Maybe one day I can see him play live. Great musician, great talent and I think Eric is set to be something in blues. Keep it up.
A few degrees warmer is as hot as you can get!
author: steven sydebothamThis is one of the best blues type cd's i have ever heard! This kid Eric is only 12 years old and to rock the way he does well it's impressive. If you want to sit down and listen to a good cd that will leave you captivated this is the one. A cd you will want to listen to over and over again. A few degrees warmer leaves scorch marks!
Great
author: RobWell, what feeling this dude has.How did he get that much blues at an early age?And what a great voice.Time to go into the studio and do a studio album.I feel that Eric is only gonna get better.
Unbelievable!
author: Terry PotterWhat a great little artist! I can only imagine how this kid will develop. The only downside I hear right now is the inexperienced bass player. As a bass player, I tend to listen to the bass line a bit more and I heard a number of missed notes. Overall though, this kid is going to go a long way! I know he is playing the styles of others right now, but where else can the kid start? I cant wait to hear his own style! Keep it coming! He he....even as I am typing this, he comes on Electric Blues.com.
I am spreading the news of this new talent...waiting for more CD's!
author: Kim JonesLove it!. Buying it for friends and telling everyone!
I would not believe it, if I would not hear it
author: Robert P., GermanyAs i was listening the first time to his sound i was going to ask me something: How is it possible to play the bluesguitar in the age of eleven as fast as a superstar like Gary Moore and with a feeling like Eric Clapton or other great ones? If you listen to his own created song "where i play my blues" - an example for to see, he and his guitar is one thing, he is closing his eyes during the riffs, he feels, what he's playing and it's a fact for his perfect improvisation and combination. That's not something what everybody could learn even with a very hard training. If you like the blues you will feel it by listen to Eric Steckel and you will know what i mean. If he want to became a greatest superstar of the world, all doors are opened for him.
This kid is going to be a blues superstar
author: Scott & DinoEric is tapped into the source.
author: Bill HyattThe guitar work is faboulous, timing, technique & improv is a great joy to listen to. Eric's potential is unlimited: look out for him in the future! The band...Beth, good solid bass technique, but play a lot, listen a lot, live a lot, and reach out for lines other than 1,3,5,6,1. Bass & drums need to phrase with Eric a little more, anticipate & create more opportunites. A very enjoyable CD: buy it, don't steal it! Support the players!
I can't believe he's only nine.
author: Jim DavisThis kid is amazing! I can't believe he's only nine years old. I'm a guitar player myself and let me tell you something I have never heard a guitar player younger then 19 do as well as Eric. His parents must be very pround like I am for my daughter she's a piano player maybe they could play together sometime.I can't wait to see his show!
This young kid is nothing short of exceptional.
author: Dave MacKenzieFirst of all, I must warn anyone preparing to listen to this CD to install seat belts on their chair of choice. Sit back, tighten up that sealbelt to maximum and be prepared to be launched into a very foreign world. Yes, a world where an 11 year kid, Eric Steckel will take you on the blues journey of your life in a ship that is usually piloted by a much older person. This CD is more than the showcasing of a very young and extremely talented musician. It is all about a very talented blues musician playing with the intensity and feeling of a person who has spent years perfecting his/her craft. It is hard to believe that such a young man and can produce such a quality product. Take a listen, you will not be disappointed. Oh yes, make sure that chair you sit in is bolted securely to the floor when you spin this CD. Trust me, it is a definite requirement.
A stunning achievement by the young guitar virtuoso.
author: Scott DavisEric has an understanding of the blues that transcends his relatively short amount of time on this planet! The songs blister along with intensity and spirit, touching the true soul of the blues. A myriad of guitar influences find their way into these choice selections. Terrific versions of 'Lenny', 'The Thrill is Gone' and other classics. You will be astounded at the guitar wizardry of this fine young man.
Raw talent!!!
author: Tommy CashAs I listened intently to "a few degrees warmer" I couldn't help but be amazed by how much Eric plays with the heart and soul of a musician many times his age, an old soul perhaps? The next Bireli Lagrene? We'll be hearing from Eric for many years to come, just wait until he's 12!!!
