Album Notes

Eris O’Brien lives in Melbourne, Australia, which is arguably the music hub of the Great Southern Land. One of this country’s most respected music icons, Ross Wilson, has described him thus: “ Eris is my most significant song writing partner. His lyric skills and melodic sense have added a lot to my own music development.” (Check out Ross’ albums on cdbaby!).

Eris started writing in the early 80’s. Since that time he has had a number of works covered by other Australian artists including: Ian Moss, Jimmy Barnes, Christine Anu, Paul Kelly and Ross Wilson. Seeing himself primarily as a songwriter, Eris, through his publisher, sought out others to perform his works. It was not until the new millennium dawned that the urge to release a solo album would mark the change from writer to performer. Eris’ debut release: Blessed Fool was the result. Melbourne’s Age newspaper gave it a 4 out of 5 star rating: “This unassuming Melburnian has been making music for many years, well and truly out of the spotlight, but that should change with the release of this beautiful 10 song collection.”

The album itself drifts stylistically from Celtic folk influences to old-time country. The emphasis is on acoustic sounds and an uncluttered, laid-back feel. This record was made for the love of the songwriter’s craft. He’ll keep on making music as long as the ideas keep flowing. He’s planning to head into the studio this year to cut another album and send some more music into the ether.

Looking forward to some feedback from listeners out there and will give you updates on Eris’ meandering musical journey.
