"Thank Our Troops" was written by Ernest (Ernie) D. Lewis of Bakersfield, California, and Johnny Taylor, of Fulton, Texas, as a collaborative project dedicated to thanking service men and women. Both individuals are from a military family. The song started out as a dedication to service men and women in Bakersfield, California. It was originally called "Thank the Armed Forces," and was performed by Ernie with Eric Burrows and the Big Dawg Band at the Bull Shed on Armed Forces Day, 2012. The chorus was changed to thank our troops and the chord progression was altered. In addition, a bridge was added. The outcome is what you hear now.
I want to thank Eric Burrows for his help in the initial steps of the song as well. Thank you Eric.
