Album Notes

Alaska is a collection of ten songs that Erv has written over the last thirty years. Erv and his producer Andrew LaValley worked hard to record this CD so the listener could experience the true songwriting and story telling talents that has made him a worldwide recording artist.

He started recording Alaska on June 7, 2007 and completed his last song on December 19, 2007, the same night he was in a near fatal car accident. During his recovery he was surprised to see that the title track of the CD Alaska, which he had been promoting since July 2007, had made its way onto the European Country Music Chart at #81. It has shown up on the last 5 surveys with the most recent one placing Alaska at #44. Erv’s accident has set the project back some but now it is ready for the world to hear.

So as you listen to Basswood, A Green-Green Valley, When the Whippoorwill Sings, and Alaska you will witness the extraordinary places that has inspired Erv’s songwriting. I’m Homeward Bound was written when he was stationed in Germany for three years. This song came to life in the recording studio with the magic of Chris Wagoner’s fiddle, slide guitar, and mandolin lead parts that just want to make you move. You’re in my Memory was written when his family had to leave Germany, before his tour of duty was up, because of on going trouble in the country during the late 70’s and early 80’s.

The Ervin Allen Music Promotions Department has started the mailing of the CD to DJ’s worldwide. Ervin is looking forward to having his new songs played so as many people as possible can hear his music.

His first CD Moon and Stars, release in March 2006, appeared on the Roots True Country Music Charts on August 6, 2006 and remained there for 82 weeks. It has been played by over 1400 + radio stations worldwide. The many e-mails and letters that he received from listeners and DJ’s encouraged him to undertake the recording of Alaska.

When one refers to a veteran performer one expects strong stories of life surrounded by equally strong country sounds. Ervin Allen is a veteran and you get what you would expect in spades! Raised in Madison, Wisconsin, Ervin was initially influenced by Elvis and his flamboyant performing style and the Beatles for their harmonies and the lyrical quality of their songs. Later his influences would include Johnny Cash, Roger Miller and Hank Snow, then Gordon Lightfoot, John Prine and Bob Dylan. The fact that Ervin has learned much from these legendary singer/writers is evident on his current album, the entirely original, Alaska (Land of Midnight Sun), and its program of ten strong story songs. The album is long on home, a longing for and an appreciation of, with songs like I’m Homeward Bound, Basswood, Green, Green Valley and Alaska (a world-wide radio hit single). Home has always been a popular country theme almost as popular as love and Ervin explores this territory effectively with You’re In My Memory, She Didn’t Love Me and Let’s Make A Memory Tonight. Produced by Andrew LaValley in Madison, Wisconsin, the album features a bunch of unknown (to me) but extremely talented musicians. I do recommend you check out Ervin Allen at www.myspace.com/ervinallen -DJ Pete Smith, FAB-AM, UK-
